What does 'WRX' and Type 'R' mean?

Think WRX Meens World Rally eXperimental, Read it some where.

Not sure about Type R.

type r is a designation, just like you can get a mustang gt...
the type r is the racing spec version, or the highest end version that is designed to hit the track. that is what most honda type r cars are...

ford uses the same r designation on the mustang cobra r, losing the type, but it is basically the baddest version you can buy...

the r basically stands for racing.
