Is there any reason you need an OS X friendly ISP?

PPPoA is OS independent. Only reason you'd want an OS X friendly ISP is so the dial-up software can be installed? Sod that, USB ADSL modems are next to useless (they do lots of wasteful stuff behind the scenes) and pretty much any DSL modem with ethernet presentation will work for you, if you use a switch/hub too.

I'm using OS X now with BT Broadband (or whatever it's called this month) with a Linux iptables firewall doing the dirty work for me.

Yep - you don't need a OSX friendly ISP.

I am using Eclipse (www.eclipse.co.uk) connected using a Netgear DG814 modem/router, with an Airport wireless hub, which my Mac Powerbook G4 running OSX 10.2.1 is wirelessly connected to.

Neither Eclipse, nor the Netgear router, know that I am using OSX. My network also contains a Pentium P3 PC and a AMD Athlon PC, both running XP. The setup doesn't care about that either.

Basically, go for whichever ISP you want. Just don't go for a USB ADSL modem - go for a standalone modem/router with 4 ports.

Another Eclipse & Mac user here, only tip is to avoid modems which connect over USB as they are poo regardless of what platform you are on.

Get one of the Ethernet modem/router combos as Imlach said, I'm running a Netgear DG814.
