Sim Card Error
 

My phone was displaying "emergency calls only " tonight, so I switched it off and on again only to receive the messge "sim card error, contact card provider".
If the sim is faulty will they replace wth another which still allows me to retain existing mobile number?
Also, what could be causing this?
