been spat in the face at work...

Hi all

this happened to someone today
heres.. the story

he and i work for Orange, in the retail side of things,Orange have this offer on with avon cosmetics from the 1st of feb till the 31st april, where if you spend 15 pounds on some face cream you get a free orange pay as you go phone as long as you top it up with 15 quid of credit. Things were very very busy, too busy with us selling 200 phones in one day, which is about a 2000% increase? Theres been people queing up out side for 45 mins before the store even opens. Then were were told to pre order the phones in, and ring the cutomers when we have enough, so basicily its about a 3-4 week delay. We now have secuity guards, from chubb, to help with the crowds and sometimes abuse we are getting.Today the manager of the other store was spat in the face by a large black lady, as she had lost her voucher.the secuitry gaurd asked her to leave and the was told by another customer that if he touched her he would come back and smash the shop up. and the black woman was making threats all the time as she was getting out the store.
The promotion vouchers state on the back that the phones are not to be sold on, but they are a lot on ebay, with 11 quid of credit and free face cream and even just the vouchers are on it ....

so what can i do to try and get this promotion stopped??

AND what would you do if you were spat in the face by a female whilst at work?????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????

HELP! aaron

OllyK 30 March 2004 09:27 PM

Well stopping the promotion will be difficult - the ball is rolling and it would be emarrasing to Avon and Orange to stop it, mind as soon as it was announced many people were saying that supply would outstrip demand.

As for the spitting, should have called the Police there and then. It is assault and you never know what nasties the woman may have had that could be transmitted.

mj 30 March 2004 09:27 PM

cheap as chips 2 chavs.

AVON??... WTF, please tell me I am not going to be innundated with AVON Lady Chavmilf's knocking on the door trying to sell me lipstick and a new mobile contract

J4CKO 30 March 2004 09:35 PM

Hence why I could never ever work with the public again, worked in a pub, nearly got stabbed, got propositioned by middle aged women which was nice, wasnt so keen on it when it came from middle aged men, got my car stood on, a squaddie got his dick out and p1ssed on the bar, had to clean up runny dog sh1t after a regulars sheepdog was poorly so muggins copped for it, got called many different names so stirred pints with my cock for certain people, but other than that most people are okay and I never got spat on, I would have punched the bitch to be honest.

alcazar 31 March 2004 08:12 AM

Agree with not serving the public, I used to be a minicab driver and you would not believe what I saw/had to put up with:(:

I reckon it's down to respect............no-one seems to have any for anyone else any more:(:

stirred pints with my cock

Seriously though, that kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable in a 'civilised' society. The objective side of my nature says citizen's arrest (applying the rule of minimum force, naturally) and call the police. The subjective side of my nature says drag the cow into the nearest car park and give her a good shoeing, focusing on the vital organs - heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and spleen.

i would suggest that they write to their employer also, asking for measures to be taken to protect staff from these kind of incidents. may not lead to anything, but if another assualt took place, it would be useful to have a record of concerns being raised previously.

RichWalk 31 March 2004 08:37 AM

Have to agree, worked as a manager for HMV for many years, the level of rudeness and in several cases violence directed at all of us was beyond belief.

Without bringing any racist overtones in here, black women aged btwn 20-35 were by a country mile the most violent and abusive customers we had to serve, on 4 occassions during Xmas times, I have seen 6 Security men needed to physically carry a black women out of our shop!!

When I last went to New York I was delayed in the bus between the terminals because in the middle of the road there were a load of police and ambulance men trying to restrain a huge black woman on a stretcher. She ended up tethered down and handcuffed to the stretcher!

My brother in law use to run a music shop nr Reading and was once threatened with a needle  luckily he is very good at Karate (never used it though) but it did scare the life out of him and made him think twice what he was doing there.

Personally I think anyone that threatens staff for any reason are out of order and need ejecting straight away. As for the bint spitting? ...thats just plain disgusting

The Police ought to be able to use tranquilizer darts for people like this. If they behave like animals, they should be treated as such.

grovesy 31 March 2004 09:04 AM

Sounds harsh mate but I cant see how a shop worker would be able to stop a natoinal promotion which is clearly working "2000% increase?" "Theres been people queing up out side for 45 mins before the store even opens"

vindaloo 31 March 2004 09:33 AM

Stopping the promotion sensibly doesn't seem an option..... Several staff off due to 'stress' after the 'incidents' of the previous day(s) might effectively fcuk it up. Not fair on anyone who turns up for work in the next few days though.

The 'spitting' incident.... I think my reaction would be one of utter shock. If I had water handy, I'd like to think I'd throw it over her and deal with any consequences. Water's clean after all. If she goes mental after that, it's a 'security' issue and reasonable force could be used.

I think we need a modern equivalent of "the stocks" for some people. With this woman and her spitting, muzzle the b*tch for a week and give her a supply of soups and slimfast drinks.

Jeremy.

Do what I did Aaron, when I got assulted on duty(I'm a postman) I battered the **** and put him in hospital, he split my lip whilst trying to rob a young girl of 16, and I stepped in and he hit me first, went to court and he had to pay me £150 compensation and he got 6 months.
Cheers
Colin

LMAO

Ive been spat at a lot whilst on tour in NI, A regular occurance.
Filthy nappies beeing chucked in your face is something else though.

What could we do about it, fek all.

I feel for the bloke though its quite disturbing the firsr time it happens.

Clarebabes 31 March 2004 11:38 AM

I'm do Avon and it's been stopped now.

Markus 31 March 2004 02:03 PM

The behaviour of the woman is totally out of order. Not much you can do though, if you hit her then she'll call the plod and quite probably play the race card as well.

I'd certainly speak to your management, and/or as high up the chain in orange that you can, make a very strong complaint about this. I'd also think about chatting to the local plod, mention what has happened and see if a bobby can hang around, just in case people kick off. They won't give a feck about a security guard, but they might (doubtful though) if there is a copper about. Thing is, if a cop was about then I would have thought you could have reported the woman to the copper for harassment and threatening behaviour

I would also consider contacting the local media, get Avon and Orange some bad publicity for what appears to be a very poorly organsied scheme.

chaos. 31 March 2004 02:08 PM

Did yer like that? :p

ProperCharlie 31 March 2004 02:15 PM

and you should be swinging from the gallows pole.

LeighJ 31 March 2004 02:23 PM

Why is "it" still allowed to post?

ProperCharlie 31 March 2004 02:25 PM

i have no idea - maybe his opinions are "broadly acceptable" to the powers that be. whereas those with more left wing opinions are excluded.

SteveLegacyToo 31 March 2004 02:35 PM

Has anyone complained to a Mod about that??

If not, I will

LeighJ 31 March 2004 02:37 PM

done, but do it again.

SteveLegacyToo 31 March 2004 02:41 PM

Ah good, it's gone...how de we get him shot?!

chaos. 31 March 2004 02:48 PM

Your all so f**king Politically Correct arn't you?! Thats why this country is always walking on egg shells.

When the asians killed that 15 yr old kid why wasn't that described as RACIST???! Too scared to offend the minority, thats why. They would be up in arms if it was white trash that killed one of their own. Why do you care so much about the miniory? We could live happily without them, they contribute nothing but trouble.

EDIT - And I'm always amazed that the people that complain about my posts are newbies or lurkers, your like buisy old women.

LeighJ 31 March 2004 02:51 PM

Off Chaos, take your pick as to what the first word is.

Chip 31 March 2004 02:51 PM

Chaos,
For once(just once though) I happen to agree with you.

chip.

SteveLegacyToo 31 March 2004 02:56 PM

Politically correct???

C'mon Chaos, justify the "swinging from the Vines" post.

Then I think I'll go for a Curry....or Chinese....Thai, or even Italian. I welcome immigration, and the food it brings!

Vette_76 31 March 2004 02:56 PM

Well here's one "newbie" who happens to agree with you!!
