Fitting ScoobyMania 3 Gauge Centre Pod

Hi,

Has anyone any tips for securing a "ScoobyMania 3 Gauge Centre Pod" in a classic?

Are they supposed to have some kind of securing kit with them or do you just glue/seal them down somehow.

Cheers,

Jess

I assume you've removed the old oddment tray lid, and replaced the actual tray?

OK, when I did mine, to start with, the thing was so well made that it fitted just by pushing into place. It was tight enough to hold.

After about 6 weeks, vibration had loosened it a bit, and I just kept pushing it back, that is, until it slid right out under acceleration:D:

After that, I put plasticene under the 4 corners, and slid it in again, then out, the plasticene showing me where contact was made.

I then removed the plas, and replaced it waith SMALL blobs of clear silicone, in the appropriate places.

I had mine fitted at scoobymania, and its siliconed in place . To be honest its not really a good fit, its a bit lopsided and raised at one side, which I couldnt tell straight after installation because of all the masking tape holding it down until the silicone set. I also asked if the gauges would reflect on the windscreen at night and was told that the "Definately" wouldn't..... but they do.:( and are quite distracting.

I would use them for parts again though as they were very good prices, but I'd get a different pod elsewhere next time.

Hi Alcazar,

Thanks for the tip.

Is your pod glass fibre?

Im interested in getting one, what gauges have you installed? boost ? ?

Jess 25 March 2004 10:21 AM

RB5_IOM,

I'm fitting, boost, oil temp and oil pressure gauges.

RB5_IOM 25 March 2004 10:22 AM

Thanks,

how much did you pay for your gauges and where?

Gauges where £25 each delivered (AutoGauge) - chap called Si Dawson, not got his details with me.

Pod £80 + £5 del + VAT = £99.98 (expensive, but I wanted a flat top rather than wavy top pod).

RB5_IOM 25 March 2004 10:36 AM

Not bad pricing actually. I was looking at £80 a gauge. Cheers for your help. Will have to go and spend spend now............

ooops that photo is a bit big..............

Mine are Defis from Scoobymania.

Yes the pod is F/glass, which I found out to my cost when cutting out holes for the gauges, tthe fibres went through my trousers, and I had itchy scrote all week!!!

Alcazar,

Oooh. Fortunately I had the holes cut before having the pod sent.

Defi's, nice, couldn't quite stretch the funds for those, just hope the one's I have will do the job.

My pod from Scooby Mania fitted like a glove. For peace of mind I used the securing kit. It is called Glue Tack BTW. LOL. ;)

MadGrip 25 March 2004 11:49 AM

Harvey, do you have the "flat topped" pod & if so do you get reflections on the windscreen ?

Phil

Harvey,

Presume the fitting kit is available from all good diy stores ;)

harvey 25 March 2004 06:42 PM

Jess: I heard you had to use the B+Q for best results, due to the co-efficient of adhesion under lateral G. ;) LOL
Phil: No reflection that I have noticed and no complaints of any sort.
