Hi, can anyone tell me if this is a similar bulb design to the bulb you get on the autolamps philips Hi-lo kit ppl talk about on hear. MY99 UK.

No, on two counts: it appears that the low beam is HID, but at 9000K, so VERY blue almost purple, (the good lighting ones tend to be atround 4100K), and the main beam is just a halogen lamp.
