MS Word - Highlighting Text

sorry if this is a really dumb question but this is really annoying me:

trying to highlight sections of text to cut and paste within and between docs, but if i have to scroll down below or above what is visible on the screen, it just goes straingt to the beginning or ensd of the document. is there anything you can do about this?

Do you mean this,
left mouse click in front of the section, hold it down and release at the end of the section.
You should be able to scroll without loosing the highlight.

You mean it whizzes (techie term..!) the highlight down to the bottom of the document?
Either move your mouse more gradually, or highlight with the keyboard - put the curser at the start of what you want to highlight, hold shift, use down and right arrows as required to move to the end of where you want to highlight.
There might well be an option somewhere to control the level of whizziness, but I find using the keyboard is the easiest way to do it .

Also, try "zooming out" (in the view menu option) so that the document appears smaller. You may be able to view the whole section to be highlighted in the screen at once, and if it does begin to scroll to the top/bottom, it should move more slowly!

Highlight a bit at the start of the selection using the mouse
Scroll down to the end point using scroll bars or mouse wheel
Hold shift and click and the end point

Tiz a core method of selection in most graphical user interfaces in pretty much all apps :)

judge jules is right, another way is to highlight the text, and bring down the cursor. Stop just short of the grey bar at the bottom of the screen ( not the system tray/bar).

Nip into the grey bar and back above it again with the cursor to blast throgh text. This only works if you kept your finger on the left MB when you first selected, you will select as you go :), just lift the cursor away from the grey bar to stop it and contol the speed.

If you want to speed it up, while the cursor is in the bar, waggle it side to side.

thanks for the info - it is definitley a whizziness problem ;)

tried the holding down shift and clicking technique - works a treat :)

probably easier than buying a mouse with a wheel. :D

thanks people.
