I am gobsmacked by the bill I just opened - £1989 for one year in a two and a half bed semi. A 'much more restrained 7.1% hike this year.

I remember i used to pay a reasonable £365 in an identical semi in Cardiff some 6 yrs ago - ITS ALL GONE MAD!!!!

£1650 for a 4 bed in N London. About a 10% increase, robbers.

£2480 here and not in the top band! My parents house in Aberdeen is in the same band as Balmoral Castle, about £3k, except it's Queenies holiday home so she doesn't pay the full amount :rolleyes: :D

Mid Dorset, band E Rates are £1500 ish!! on this......

Im paying £1200 for a 2 bed flat in Ashtead Surrey!!!

£879 for a band B house here in huddersfield, w.yorkshire, thats 8% of my take home pay! I'm with the Liberals on this, it should be based on ability to pay, which i can't.

I wouldn't mind paying it so much if I actually got anything for it. It's like a rubbish tip around where I live.

Fooking filthy and the council do nothing for the money we pay them.

We moved from our old house, to the new one, in the pic! and now the old ones been empty and on the market for 6 months we've gotta pay 100% council tax, it's flippin empty for christ sake!!

£1294 in Rossendale where we get no services whatsoever (they don't even sweep the roads other than the very main ones and if they collect the bins they rarely do it on the day they're supposed to). 5% rise this year which is better than the double figure hikes we had in the last few years, but still well above inflation.

After hassling them to death they finally agreed it was their responsibility to sort out a pathway that runs up next to our house (overgrown, collapsing etc.) - that was two years ago and so far nothing has happened - ignorant disorganised lazy twats!

Anyway with the bill came this load of marketing twaddle about emailing them with your views/questions so I did. I haven't heard anything since I sent it a week or so ago so sending them another one today telling them I ain't paying it till they answer my email.

So I'll see you in jail :D

The local Council paper landed on my doorstep a few days ago with this years costs:-

Band A <£27,000 £670.67
Band B £27,000->£35,000 £782.44
Band C £35,000->£45,000 £894.22
Band D £45,000->£58,000 £1,006.00
Band E £58,000->£80,000 £1,229.56
Band F £80,000->£106,000 £1,453.56
Band G £106,000->£212,000 £1,676.67
Band H +£212,000 £2,012.00

This is from a Council that was investigated after a shortfall of 4 million pounds and reports of locak council workers (e.g. plumbers, sparkies, etc..) earning £60,000+ a year :rolleyes:

Needless to say they've all went up since last year and unfortunately I'm stuck in band G :(

i always thought if a house was empty you were exempt from paying council tax?

I pay the whopping total of £0 cos I live in halls/with parents. Tho next year when I'm in a house with mates I will pay £0 :p

2 bed semi with garage on a corner plot £951 this year. seems quite reasonable after reading some of the other amounts.

If I extend I bet it'll double!

3 bed gaff in rural Wiltshire, band F = £1,700 give or take a couple of Sovs.

Your council tax is only slightly more than mine (band C Northants).

I think you have a lot more to show for it than where I live (but the money has not been spent helping the public, but staff). As a frequent visitor to Havering (old home), I have noticed the nice new BMW police cars and new council vehicles, your roads are still poor though.

Last year I was living alone and got a 25% reduction on the tax, why not 50% as 100% is usually for 2 people, can someone explain that rule?

5 bed detached in Cambridge £2.5k gone up 35% in 3 years. Havent even got street lights. And they have closed 7 libraries last year, do have some excellent schools in the area though.

not godd value for money, the most waste resources like it is going out of fashion, they employee far to many people in management positions IMHO.

£1580 for a four bedroomed detached house in cumbria on a band D property isnt too bad as i could build another two houses in the garden :D:D but i feel sorry for the bloke who works for me who pays £1100 for a pokey terraced house /no garden parking and we even have to buy our own bin bags

With single person discount, mine is around £600 for next year - works out as a bit over £60 per month.

My council likes to spunk vast sums of money on epic cock-ups like the Cultural Quarter. Only £15 million down the tubes :rolleyes:

with single person discount, only £75 a month.

You could always vote the current people out in the next council elections.

(not that the incoming people will be any better but hey! that's democracy). vote for the candidates that promise better quality and value services

£0 in yorkshire.. mind you the house is classed as un habitable so i would be fairly pis*ed off if they tried charging me the full whack

If the Valuation Bands were allocated on open market valuation in 1991 - is this ever likely to be subject to a change? In 1991 we were allocated Band D - but according to Valuation Bands now - we should be in Band G based on current value.

IIRC they are due to be reviewed shortly, maybe next year. The current system IS a joke, after all how many have houses which weren't even built in '91. Mine is a band E, my previous house was an E but I successfully argued it should be D when it was built. I suspect the current owners are oblivious that thie neighbours are paying more.

The idea is that the property should be valued as if it were 1991 and then a band applied from that. You can appeal to change the banding when you either buy a house or if you have some major work done. I've just had an extension put on the house and won't be appealing ;)

Anyway, back on track, mine is band E and I'm paying 1300 or so.

I should think that the bands won't change much as they are all relative to the market so you should still stay band D or thereabouts. Otherwise in 10 years, we'll all be band H!

650 ish for a 3 bed terrace in South Brum (inlc single discount) f*ck me there are some benefits to being single & living in Brum!
