iTunes On Windows - Moving I-Tunes Directory to a different disk
 

Hello folks,

Anyone know the best way of moving your iTunes folder onto a different disk ?

At present my iTunes directory is the usual My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music.

I know iTunes has an XML document called iTunes Music Library.xml that maintains the list of all the files you have imported (along with any non-standard MP3 information you've entered, playlists etc).

Is there anything that can help me move the entire store ? or am I going to have to build some nasty XSL stylesheet to walk through the XML doc and fix up all the file locations ?

I've seen an option in iTunes called convert to ID3 tags - do I need to do this to make sure all my mp3 files retain the information I've entered ?

Not sure about ID3 tags.

I use i-Tunes and set mine up so that my music is stored on my 'D' Drive. I then changed the default in i-Tunes, i think this is done in preferences, so that it reads my music in D rather than C.

Had no problem with all the track info etc..

ID3 tags are embedded in the .MP3 file itself so don't worry about them. Just move the iTunes folder and tell iTunes in the Prefs where you've moved it to. V. easy

I will give that a try.

I'm hoping I can store my i-Tunes directory on a mapped network drive to my server. The reason behind doing this is so that when my main workstation is turned off - the directory structure still exists for my RelaX Xbox media server to still stream over the house.

I was just massively worried about loosing additional info I've entered into tracks - I'm pretty sure that most of the stuff gets encoded into the .mp3 file itself - but there are still bits that are iTunes specific.
