Electronic Boost Controller: dissapointed

I have just fitted a Greddy Profec e-01 boost controller to replace the Dawes on my MY97 UK.

I had the Dawes set to 1.2bar, and I have set the Profec to the same boost level. The problem is the boost comes in much more progressively with the Profec, and I'm really missing the huge kick the Dawes gave me. The Profec has a 'Start Boost' option which is supposed to hold the wastegate shut untill target boost is hit, like the dawes, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I love the way the Profec holds boost higher up the rev-range than the Dawes (My knockink still doesn't get past the second green BTW), and it has some great features, but I'm really missing the brutal boost deleivery of the Dawes.

Would tightening the actuator rod help?

Why did you buy it over the dawes just out of interest?

I got it because of the features, RPM-offset boost control (allowing you to hold boost much higher up the rev range), real-time data logging to a memory card, timed overtake boost, hi and low boost levels, displaying and logging of boost pressure, RPM, Throttle position, recording the boost curve as a graph then playing it back........ the list of features goes on....

More details Here

It's a fantastic piece of kit, but after the Dawes the boost delievery is just too smooth.

i would never have bought a electronic controler, just because it has more features doesnt make it better (as you have found out)

I wasn't expecting it to be any better at controlling boost, (although it does hold boost better than the dawes), I just like gadgets and toys TBH ;)

Ah ha, the real answer ;)

The Profec is rated quite highly on here, but I would stick the dawes back on :) Or try the GBE one to see if thats better.

i run and AVCR and im told its all in the setup, you can have a huge first kick if you want or a nice progresive curve, its all in the setup.....maybe a pro setup is needed to cure your lust for huge boost hits

Could well be right WRX, I'm having a Power FC fitted soonish, so I'll get them to set up the Profec at the same time as fitting and mapping the Power FC.
