Having read the postings about brakes and discs, it seems that my MY99's problem of discs cracking after only 14k miles (incl one track day) is not unusual.

I've heard that you get what you pay for with brakes, and don't want pay £150 on some new discs now if I am going to have to replace them again in a years time.

The Brembo/AP jobbies look very nice but would seriously damage my marriage as well as my wallet! I'm thinking of going half way and getting the Prodrive disc/pad upgrade, but Subaru dealers want to charge £140+vat for the pads and £280+vat for the discs.

Does anyone know if the same stuff can be sourced elsewhere? I know that the latest Prodrive pads are Ferodo DS2000's, but have had trouble finding anyone who can get hold of them. I don't know who makes the discs.

Any advice?

I would guess Alcon make the disks for Prodrive, I havent seen anywhere advertise the DS2000's cheaper than that yet, but there may be some small motorsport outlets out there that do, if they hold the stock or can get it for the 99. Someone did mention a while back that they could get some cut for them, but i cant remember who it was, try searching for ferodo ?

Oh BTW my MY99 front disks cracked after 6000 miles http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif but the standard replacements have seen 20000 miles and look fine http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Alcon will not deal directly with the public. They refer all enquiries back to prodrive / subaru dealer
