The joys of being Kenyan

sure there are many down sides to being a turbo scoob owner in kenya:

1) 93 octane leaded fuel is best available
2) A new maf costs 35000 shillings (300 quid)
3) mechanics wonder why there is a radiator on top of the engine
4) mechanics wonder why the engine is 'sideways' when they cant find the spark plugs
5) the shocking road conditions
6) dust, dust, dust, dirt, dirt, dirt.

but then there is the good part:

i recently ventured to the industrial area of nairobi in search of Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s - which i found... much to my surprise. after having them fitted, i decided to take a quick stop at the local exhause shop. +- 2 hours later my scoob left with a new backbox, a gutted downpipe, a de-catted centre section and all the tiny holes in the pipework welded up all for the princely sum of 6000 shillings thats 40 quid. including labour.

ok so the backbox is a locally made one, made of mild steel, but it is made specifically for the impreza, has a 6 inch stainless steel shiny mouth and is straight through and LOUD. the centre cat was simply chopped out and replaced with a straight through pipe, and a hole was cut in the bottom of the downpipe and a hammer and metal rod used to remove the catalyst element from inside. the car is now more responsive, loud, and has a beautiful looking exhaust exit. all for 40 quid. dont u wish you were kenyan right now?

ok ok i admit one advantage compared to 6+ disadvantages is quite substantial.... but a scooby is good no matter where you are.

oh ok. that shot was at the place they do the vinyl graphics... not the greatest part of town, thus the crap cars. runs suprisingly well on 93 oc fuel. at least mines a uk car (1 of only 5 in country). all other scoobs are jap spec, and they havent even been remapped or anything!
