Newbie advice please

Hello,
Am looking to buy my first Scooby very soon :), would like some advice on which model to go for. My budget is around 11k. My perference at the mo would be the newest WRX I can afford, I like the bugeye just cos I think the interior is a lot more spacious and modern. Would I get one of these for my budget? I have noticed some classic's are fetching more than the bugeye!
After a 4 door, but 5 door more practical? Or is this model just not that cool?
I'm 33 so have found the insurance quotes not too bad.
The other issue I've got(maybe a tad silly) but colour? A silver one looks subtle, is the WR blue loud? I mean, does is attract more attention from theives?
Lastly, what am I looking at for service costs?

Any advice would be great, thanks

For around 11k you should be able to get one of the last classics (x plate)with only a few miles on the clock , you are right about the ' bug eye' interior being better , and they come with a/c as standard, for 11k you shouild be able to get a bug eye , but it might have a few more miles on the clock . The bug eye wasn't the best looking car ever made (still a Scooby though !;) )and the prices tend to reflect this a bit .As for servicing , on my Classic a minor service (oil change and a few minor checks )is about £120 ish and the next one up is about another £100 on top ,the bigger ones (including cam belt change)can be around £400 odd :( .I guess at the end of the day it comes down to personal choice , have a test drive in both and see what you think , some people think that the bug eye is a little slower than the classic, but a bit more refined . Good luck you won't regret it :D

Thanks Dave.
On what mileage does the cambelt need to be changed?

I'm gonna arrange a test drive in a few. Am getting excited about owning one now.. can't wait! :D

Im almost in the same boat here. I will be looking for a Subaru very soon. I have a slightly higher budget but dont know if i should use it or not. I mean Im totally undecided on a late classic or a bugeye. Are the bugeye interiors and the build quality that much better than the classics ?

Also the prices are very confusing, I have seen almost identical cars with £2k difference asking prices, it makes it hard to evaluate how much a certain model year is actually worth.

RRB , ....like all cars you get good ones ,mint ones and cr*p ones couple this with desirable extras like PPP (Prodrive performance pack) aic con etc and high /low miles and you can get quite a difference in price . Have a look at quite a few and have a go in both a bug eye and a classic and I'm sure you will be able to decide :D

Enjoy :D

How about a low mileage RB5 ?
Classic shape, classic car, limited edition, hold their value better.

Now who do we know might be selling one soon?

my 2pence worth is that i was lucky enough to drive a bug eye WRX and a classic side by side (both wagons) and as far as a drivers car is concerned the classic was better (convinced me to buy a classic anyway)

the bug eye seemed to be softened down a bit, the delivery wasn't as aggressive. It was only when my friend (who owned both) put a full decat exhaust and a replacement panel filter on the wrx that it started to feel as responsive as the classic. I'd guess that it's down to the extra weight that the bug eye carries, it is a much more refined car than the classic
