Help!! I've done a silly thing!
OK, so its not a disaster - but - its a pain in the rear!!
That top-of-the-dash pop-up cubby Well, I put my phone in it and closed it - a bit roughly - and the back of it jumped up, I heard two things drop into the inside of the dash somewhere and the cover is now as loose as a whore knickers on payday! I have a look and find two screws in the top under plastic covers - I find one beside the cup holder and a final one to the left of the HRW switch .... take them out expecting it all to drop out and I can sort it - NO! Now I can lift it a tiny bit under a lot of pressure but its still stuck fast! can't see anymore screws - anyone help? Any picitures? Any sites that show what to do? I now have a rattling dashboard! :( Pete |
Buy a new STI and get a rattling dashboard without any of that hassle ;)
Hope you get it sorted! tiggers. |
Should have bought a Japanese import Pete. They have a stronger lid to their dash-top compartment, and thus this problem wouldn't have occurred.

Well, thanks all - you're SOOOOOO helpful! ;)
If I had an Import a loose brain is what I would have - not a cubby lid! :D I would be so annoyed at the residual value dropping like a Richard Branson Balloon attempt, that a poxy rattle wouldn't bother me in the slightest!! ;) Pete |
There is no difference between a Jap and Uk dash,in terms of quality.
The sad thing is that the dash has to come off to sort out the lid.Stupid design. |
I bought my Import just under 2 years old (It was imported new), taking full advantage of the price drop.... As I intend to keep it for a while future depreciation isn't an issue.....

Pete,
Have a look on Nick's site http://www.chiark.com/scooby/gauges_interior.asp it tells you how to do it there. What I did was get a duster and thread it through the catch at the front and pull on that whilst pulling from the back. It does need a lot of force to come out and the dash seems to bend outwards whilst doing it but it does come out. Having taken mine off though in the past, chances are, whatever came off is now at the bottom of the centre console, and you might be better removing that bit of the trim and having a ferret around there to see if you can find the bits. The gear gaitor and bits near the fag lighter come out a hell of a lot easier than the top binnacle. This is assuming you are trying to find the missing bits :) If you just want the tray out to get some replacement bits for it, follow the instructions on Nick's site mentioned above. |
Cheers matey!! :D

There's no way Mr Lewis would have bought an import, they do after all have GOLD WHEELS!!!!!!

Well it is Pure White, I thing Gold looks great on the Classic Blue (The first Impreza I saw and I wanted one ever since) but Gold on White just wouldn't work.....

Should have read, 'There's no way Mr Lewis would have bought an import, they do after-all have GOLD WHEELS!!!!!!' I realise they don't ALL have gold wheels, just the majority! |

We all know the UK cars are better built than the JDM cars - its simple really - the JDM cars have to last a much shorter time before the Japs don't want them anymore (Shaker Laws and all that!)
Its only us in the UK that give them a market! But, remember, you are buying a car built to last 6 years ....................... not a UK car built to last 15!! Pete ;) |
so you've modified it now
a failed member of the SISI club? you should hang your head in disgrace... ;):D |
SOME CONSTRUCTIVE ADVICE.
ONCE YOU GET THE POD OUT, YES IT IS A BIT FIDDLY, WHAT HAPPENS IS, THE PLASTIC AT THE BACK OF THE POD SPLITS SO YOU CAN NO LONGER GET A DECENT GRIP IN THE THREADS FOR THE SCREWS. WHAT I DID WITH MINE WAS TO DRILL STRAIGHT THROUGH THOSE THREADS SO THE HOLES CAME OUT ON THE INSIDE OF THE POD AND REPLACE THE SCREWS WITH SMALL THIN LONG BLACK SCREW HEADED BOLTS. YES YOU CAN SEE THE HEADS FROM INSIDE THE POD BUT THERE BLACK AND WHO LOOKS IN THERE ANYWAY. FIXED AND STRONGER THAN IT WAS IN THE FIRST PLACE! |
Modified it???????????
The damned lid fell off in my hands - and it is to be brought back to standard when I can take it apart! It STILL won't budge! I have a rope around it and my 20 stone is swinging out of the tailgate ............ nothing! I am the Chairman of the SISI clus, I would NEVER disgrace the club in such a manner! Pete Thanks RB - not sure I follow you? the problem I have is the lid is now loose (2 clunks were heard as 2 items fell into the inards of the dash). I could cure it if only I could get the pod out ...... I have pulled and pulled - nowt! :( |

Eh?

The Uk cars might have a few more bits and pieces to help them survive the crappy weather we have, but there isnt much difference otherwise (perhaps a few more goodies in the JDM cars).
I dont know how any one has managed to take the pod out without breaking it.When I tried on my last car it felt like the dash would break off before the pod can come out. Add another 20 stones perhaps? |
