Just been to my dealer to ask about a 15k service. Which at £120 seemed ok. And since I'll supply the oil it will be about £100.

Then since my brake front brake pads are about shot. I asked about prices for new ones and specifically the prodive ones. As the normal ones are c**p and fade tooooo soon.

Looks like I'll have to look else where since £290 seems a bit much for pads, what do you think (don't answer that I'm taking the p**s ha ha).

Now all I need is to find a company that sells Ferodo DS2000's cheap, as they seem to be the best (refuse to spend £200 on Pagid blues).

I agree thet are taking more than your money....

Demon Tweeks stock DS2000's don't know about price though.

Prodrive pads for the 99MY are DS2000 Ferodo, 140 plus vat for the front 75 plus vat for the rear, although I have been told you can get them cheaper elsewhere i have yet to hear real prices for them from anywhere else.

Dave, try Hi-Spec in Dartford. They sell a few different types of pads. Ferodo's and EBC are the ones that come to mind.

The reason I want to change to a better pad is that I've had fade a couple of times and I just don't seem to be able to trust the brakes fully.

I've got some decent fluid to go in at next service and also want to put decent pads in.

Question is, for fast road use only is it worth changing the rear pads as well as the fronts ?

Dave - I went through similar thing just prior to my 15k service. Advice given to me was to save money and go for 1155s, which for fast road are more than good enough, and if bedded in properly, DON'T squeel. In 3000 miles, including some very fast road http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif mine haven't faded once, and haven't squeeled once! Did you just go for the fronts? Did you have anything else done like Goodridge hoses/brake support bracket?

All I want is a brake pedal I can trust, by which I mean the point at which the brakes bite is always the same and the pedal doesn't start to feel like cold custard when I start to push on a good road.

I had hoped that I would have this as standard but the answer to that is no.

All I need to do is find out how to achieve what I want without going overboard (Brembo's/AP's). Since I am only driving on the public road and I am not a complete nutter.

Under advice - I just went for fronts. And again under advice, I was told just to do the pads, then if I wanted to do the hoses/replace bracket/replace disks etc do them later, and all at different times, to feel the benefit and find out what makes what difference.

Changing the fronts to 1155s has transformed the braking. First time I slammed on with my wife in the car it made her swear!! You can feel your teeth move when you brake.

I will upgrade the disks when the current ones wear out, but the stopping power of my car is now perfectly good enough for 'fast road' use. I am getting the brake support bracket changed however, as this apparently improves feel.

While we're on this subject, what Mintex pads do I need for an MY97 Catalunya - 1155s?

Yep 1155s are the best bet - 1144s are OK, but 1166s are racing pads and not suitable for the road.

1155s are also relatively cheap compared to Pagids, but they produce a lot of dust and can squeal a lot.

Matt if you get the 1155s you won't be dissappointed - but bed them in properly or you will get brake squeel!

I've had 1155s on for 3000 miles now and they haven't squeeled once!

They are dusty though!! - and set to get more so as I'm having grooved disks fitted tomorrow. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
