Guys and Girls...

Will Worn A520's be ok for use at Donno. I have found a supplier that has 4 part bald types, me thinks fine for track use, any comments welcome before I collect them.

As long as you don't want to set any lap records they'll be fine.

A520's are certainly not the grippiest of tyre (by miles), but they are very progressive. They are only meant as standard road tyres, but I used to use them at MIRA in the wet. There was next to no grip at all, but they were very predictable.

Don't try to keep up with people on S-02's and you'll have a ball!

Picked them up tonight, 2 are on the wear limit, 1 has approx. 2-3mm tread, and the last is bald.

Anyway, cheap at half the price. Only have to pay for valves and balancing.

Simon, no I'm driving up on my P-Zeros, and changing them when I get there.

I forgot to post the size, will 235/45ZR17. These shouldn't rub, will they?

Danny,

unless you have a 22B, there is a very good possibility that these tyres shall rub on the wheel arches and/or the rear struts depending on the offset of wheels you have.

I'd fit one and check for clearance at the front under full lock conditions before venturing out onto the track. The last thing you want is for it to rub under high speed cornering causing you to go take a different line from what you intended!

They will also have the effect of making the gearing a bit taller as well by a few percent.

In the dry arent bald tyres better since there is more rubber on the contact area with the road?
This is assuming they are not down to the canvas :-) !

Jon,

You're right - more grip through increased contact patch size, and more precision because you don't have the tread blocks shifting with lateral forces. This also helps reduce the tendency of road tyres to over heat on a circuit, so wear rates should be reduced a bit too.

If you're down to the canvas, you must drive a Fraser-Nash, a Blower-Bentley or something similar!.
