Quick problem needs solving (hard-drive missing)

Hi Scoobynetters,

I just got a new maxtor hard-drive, plugged in as slave on the same (primary0 IDE cable as my local disc (c). Win XP plug and pray picked it up straight away and in hardware manger it shows, and is suppose to be fully installed.

However, when I go into 'my computer' it's not listed!?

Any clues?

Cheers

Nick

Right click "My Computer" and choose "Manage"

Find "Disk Management" on the left hand tree.

You should see it listed in there as Disk x and it showing as empty or free space

Right click the empty space in the right hand window and you can create a partition (or multiple partitions).

Once partitioned, it will show up in My Computer ready to be formatted.

Chris.

It just struck me that it's not partitioned or formated - d'oh!

Thanks chris, you have saved me many stoned hours of being annoyed and fiddling with jumpers! ;)

what happens if you have a drive with two partitions on it already and data that you need?

In disk management it say it shows disk1 but it has a yellow and black warning sign, and underneith it says 'dynamic' and 'foriegn' and has no size detials or partision etc.

If I right click on it, it gives me the option to convert to basic disc, this won't loose the data will it?
