Running in a MY04 WRX
I am due to take delivery of my WRX over the next week :)
I was wondering what the best procedure is for running it in. i.e. keep it under 3K rpm for the first 500 miles then "slowly" increase the revs, etc |
Kevin - try here! http://http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/sh...d.php?t=308818
|
Kevin it says to keep to under 4000 revs untill fist service 1000 miles. If you can keep to under 3000 revs for the first 500 miles then you should go into the ministry!!!
Have great fun John |
Kept my STi8 under 4k until 1k service.
Dealer also advised this. |
MY04 STI PPP
Good Luck, I have now put 675 miles on my new one. Booked in for a Service next week.
Trying to keep RRPM to 3.5 I set the rev bleep to warn of 3.5 but it drove me nuts....now switched off. I have the fittest right leg and arm I could every have, changing gear to keep the revs down is a real experience even at real slight acceleration you have to fight to keep up with the changes.. But Enjoy, Its fantastic. |
Halesy. I'd try changing gear with the LEFT arm and leg- much less effort you'll find and safer too!!!

Thanks for that Speedmeister , I will try to remember that next time I get in it.
See what these bl...y cars do to ya. I cant even think straight. :) :) |
Kept my MY03 STi Type UK under 4k till service ... however, it was a battle to achieve. The only way I made it was to clock up 1k in a week doing A/B-road runs to Southampton and North Wales and then start to have a bit more fun after the service. (I'm not talking about stamping on as soon as it came back from the service but the revs were allowed out of the sub-4k category once or twice :D)
Enjoy the expereince that is Scooby owning/driving & welcome to the asylum!! Remember that madness takes its toll, exact change only please  |
i have kept my MY04 Sti to 3500rpm only taking it slightly past 4000rpm twice in 540 miles booked in for service on saturday, but will defo not be stamping on loud pedal 2 often after that

Don't bother - it makes bugger all difference. In fact, plenty of evidence these days to suggest that a good raz early on is beneficial.
|
How wise is it to thrash Imprezas before the 1000 mile service though, bearing in mind that they still have (thinner) running in oil until that time?

Nonsense! This is an old debate guys - maybe worthwhile running in 10yrs ago, with poor tollerances, but things are different these days. Engineers at Scooby garage I bought from said don't bother.
|
but does it have thinner oil in ??
do we have any evidence to say different ?? sti-04!! |
Agreed - mechanically all it will do is prematurely wear things .... and melting pistons / turbo bearings are never good .....
|
Again, rubbish. Any evidence to prove it's worth doing? If i'd melted my pistons, I'd know about it by now. As for premature wear, it's only 1,000 miles, which I did in 2 weeks of mixed motorway, a and b road driving, at a whole range of loads and engine speeds. Just the ticket I say and it goes like stink now.
|
STi04 - SGT (my local and very switched on dealers) confirmed that they contain a special "thin" oil from the factory.
They then put a semi synthetic in at the 1K service and fully synth at the 10K service. |
Gubbins - OK maybe coincidence but my almost bog standard WRX (just a Prodrive backbox) kicks out 260bhp and is fast and smooth as you like! I think standard is meant to be 225 ..... :D:D:
|
MadMark - you really should have fully sythetic from 1K onwards IMHO for this type of car, considering the type of motor and typical load on it.
Where did you get the 260BHP measured? (did you do a thread on this a while back?) |
i agree with the fully synthetic from 1k, i will be defo asking my dealer to confirm this on saturday morning
|
This bloke had some good tips...
http://forums.sidc.co.uk/messageview...threadid=13271 |
Gubbins - Yup - 252 bhp @9K (Power Engineering) and 260bhp @16K (G-Force). Good enough for me especially as G-Force is meant to be more accurate / pessimistic than most other rollers.
- Felt so much quicker on the G-Force day and post it's 10K service .... |
Danny - That's excellent ........ :D:D
|
Thanks for all the replies! I'm already planning what trips I can make to reach the first service asap
