Type R - Check Up from the Kneck Up.....

Just had the 6 monthly check up on my baby at Owen Developments....

Very pleased with the reports..............

Fuelling and Boost + all the other bits are as they should be..........

Dyno results ...............

317 bhp (253@wheels) / 310lbft.
Peak boost = 1.4 bar holding a min of 1.1 ish

BTW : Thier dyno cell is immense, think I have caught a cold from the fans.......and that was only on half power!!!! The car never went above the normal temps on driving normal conditions on the road according to the SECS.

Nice results.

Standard?

Wonder how my V4 Type R would get on...

How did you set the diffs for the run?

5 Type R 05 March 2004 03:14 PM

Only Mildly Modded..........

Owen Developments mapped Unichip (Peak boost 1.4, holding 1.1)
Bespoke Dual Pump Water Injection System
Aftermarket Panel Filter
H&S Downpipe
Full Blitz Nur Spec R System

Big Brakes and Fully Adjustable TEIN suspension

In stock tune when it arrived on the boat from Japan it was 270bhp and 235lbft. Low torque , but the car was running as should be..fuelling , boost etc etc

I think most stock Type Rs would generally get a genuine 230-260lbft before mods

5 Type R 05 March 2004 03:15 PM

Diff was fully locked

I understood this can cause problems, only to be used on gravel / snow etc - I may have picked up on that the wrong way round?

Diff lock should never be used unless when stuck in a field etc.........

However on a dyno which is a fixed point and distance apart etc, its the preferred method

That helps as I was intending on getting a dyno soon & did not know

Thanks

My car is standard V4 - Only mod is decat down, mid & 5" rear box... the difference was incredible - bit noisy but the turbo spin up is great - so many mods so little £££!

5 Type R 05 March 2004 04:43 PM

If you have decatted without a ECU remap you want to be very very carefull.

Are you using Optimax and Octane Booster? If not you defo need to be.

One of the easiest ways to grenade an import is to decat and put a cone filter on without a remap.

SUBTYPER 05 March 2004 06:46 PM

Mines a V4 Type R and last Dyno I got 293bhp and 305lbft on a TD04 turbo and magnex downpipe and decat center and back box with K&N panel filter.

My diff was unlocked and also they switched the IC spray on AUTO

Nice torque mate.
How much boost are you running?
What ECU?

APIDavid 05 March 2004 07:55 PM

SubtypeR Surely a version 4 STi would have a VF23 / 24 series turbo?, the TD04 is the little one from a low hp UK car.

Typo??

David API

Sorry 5 type R not hijacking your thread, and by the way the figures from your unichip and set up are very good, but that's Owens for you ! Probably the most accurate Rolling road in the country in my opinion.

SUBTYPER 05 March 2004 08:27 PM

Yes David i was surprised aswell to see the TD04 aswell was expecting the Vf 23 or similar but according to Harvey its only running a TD04 and its standard ECu and from what I know as i havent got a boost gauge its standard boost.

SUBTYPER 05 March 2004 08:31 PM

Thanks 5 Type R yours looks a very nice motor mate.

5 Type R 05 March 2004 08:40 PM

Hi David

Thanks for the comments.
I have to agree regarding Owens............ however I am biased as they are friends aswell as my preferred tuner................

Their dyno cell is probably one of the best kept secrets when it comes to the commercial world.
I dont think its a problem though as 90% of their work is competitive motorsport and people in the know.........know.

305 lbft on standard boost is truly exceptional mate.......

SUBTYPER 05 March 2004 08:49 PM

I wish I knew where my Vf turbo has gone. See the car wasn`t new when I bought it so was wondering if the previous owner who was a car wheeler dealer selling from home has swapped it and made a killing on the VF23 or whether its been swapped when its been in a garage up here thats into rallying and maybe kept mine as a spare. This garage runs a Version 4 Rally car. Altho I got to admit I havent noticed any change in the feel of the car since the garage had worked on my car. So probably the original owner. What would the difference be with the vf23/24 fitted be should I have notice the difference in every day driving.

I must admit I was impressed with the torque figure too. Going to Well Lane Turbo on Sunday too see what i get this time.

5 Type R 05 March 2004 08:51 PM

Good luck at the weekend sub

interested to know how it runs.........

SCOOBYD00 05 March 2004 08:57 PM

Optimax & Pro boost at the moment.

Knocklink in the post.

Getting there.

5 Type R 06 March 2004 08:28 AM

Thats good, ,.......good luck tomorrow

SUBTYPER 06 March 2004 06:21 PM

Well due to technical problems I am having to pull out of the Rolling Road Session.

Just trying to solve a O2 sensor fault and when trying to get the Lambda sensor out have discovered the garage that fitted the downpipe for me, Has managed to crossed thread the Lambda and the downpipe. They have managed to stuff the threads on both the pipe and the lambda sensor. Once they had realised that it wasnt going to fit together they then have used some sort of adhesive to fit the probe into downpipe. Annoying thing is I wouldn`t of noticed this problem If I hadn`t been trying to sort the O2 problem. Which means everything would of been fine. Now I have been left with a big bill for new Downpipe and new Lambda probe.

This is the same garage that I mentioned in the previous thread. I must admit I am so tempted to name and shame.

Nasty stuff mate.............Shoddy work..........

SUBTYPER 06 March 2004 06:53 PM

Tell me about it mate. Especially when i have spent a fair bit of money on my car and they have also worked on my gearbox starting to wonder how long that will last.
