Actuator Pipe Restrictor

ok I am fitting a MBC this weekend to MY00Turbo cos I am suffering with slight overboosting and spiking (since fitting decat d.p and b/box). Have no problems with fitting the controller but just wanted to know whether I have to remove the brass restrictor which I belive lives in the pipe to the actuator ? Surely with a MBC you don't need the restrictor in place ?

Correct. Consider removing your existing boost pipework complete and purchasing new hoses for the MBC - depending how old it is, the OE stuff has a habit of splitting.

... plus as and when you revert back to standard, much easier to simply swap back over. :)

Thanks for the replies gentlemen :) I assume standard silicone vacuum hose will be up to the job ?

Which MBC you got? The Dawes apparently comes with the necessary hose. I went for the GBE Mk II, which not only came with no hose, but also the bore of each end was about 9mm. I couldn't find anything to begin with, but ended up finding some home brewery clear tubing in B&Q (;)), so an inch or so of that at each end, and then some hose with an outer diameter of 9mm and a bore of 4mm (I think) for the connections to the compressor outlet and wategate actuator. Quite a bodge, but it's worked fine since... :)

Yes I have a GBE Mk II as well - hadn't thought too much about the size of the pipework - hmmmmm I will give some thought to what you have said Judge :)

Buy boost hose, not vacuum hose :)

It's not a massive problem, just not as straightforward as the Dawes. On the plus side though, you've saved money, won't have to drill out the breather hole, and the ball's made of a lighter material, meaning slightly more accurate boost control.

to Dowser - and the difference is ?? I used silicone vacuum on my prev WRX with an MBC no problems at all ?

Where is the best place to get the boost hose ?

Got mine from here. VP4 I think it was...
