what is the main difference between these two units?

What would be the difference to the car if it was straight swapped with the current set up?

MY99uk.
Dawes mbc @ 1.15bar pressure, STi TMIC and alloy *Y* piece, Samco hoses (both sets), full decat, IC waterspray, knocklink, AFR, and boost gauge.

next up is fuel pump and reg.

Significantly more power, at the cost of 5-700rpm later to reach 1 bar in 4th gear from low revs.

With the stock map, you'll be lean during spool up and the timing is suboptimal - on cars I've seen previously this has not been dangerous, but you should carefully check fuelling and knock afterwards. However, watch the boost level - running much leaner than the stock maps, mine was hitting 98.7% IDC's at 1.15 bar & 7k rpm. I'd expect this boost level to be dangerous above 6k on a stock map.

An EcuTek remap would finish it off nicely - greatly improving spool up, performance and driveability (not much more peak power [not when I remap, anyways :)], but a much fatter torque curve).

The only problem I have with a remp is that i like to tinker and change things around, trying out new products and ideas, this would work out v. expensive if I had to get the map altered each time:(
what would the power/torque level be say comparing a td04 at 1.15bar and a td05 at say only 1.0 bar assuming the above mods?
would it be a safer option to reduce boost pressure slightly?

Ill hopefully be fitting this weekend sometime, Ill keep my peepers on the AFr and knock sensors then.

does it also make any difference that my car is a 99?
ie it adjusts both up and down.

Remember that the coolant pipe running on the side of the TD05 will rub against the geearbox on a MY99 so be ready with a grinder to remove some of the ridge on the gearbox (don't worry, it won't weaken the box).
