Bought my2000 classic 3 years ago.
Has scoobysport back box.
ITG panel filter.

Can anyone tell me what I could do next for it ?
Thank You

What do you want to achieve?

Best bet is a de-cat down pipe and centre section to match :)
This should give you a little more noise aand a noticeable increase in power. Should alow the turbo to spoolup about 500 RPM earlier too :D:D

De-cat is definately going to be the more cost effective for an easy gain in BHP/Torque.

Does anyone know if you can clean the ITG panel filter ?
Or if its too dirty would I have to buy a new one ?

Pick any one of the STi, K&N or Green panel filters and you'll be fine.

The main problem with it is that the filter material and construction makes it far too easy for the filter "mucus" to be sucked off into the induction system, where it can coat the airflow meter, with potentially very damaging results for your engine. MY99 and MY2000 cars seem particularly prone to this issue.

Not even worth cleaning it. By doing so, and applying a fresh coating of mucus, you start the contamination cycle all over again. Bin it and replace with one of the three mentioned above.

Jerry, I used to run an ITG in my 98 UK car - Power Engineering binned it when I was there a couple of weeks ago and replaced with K+N filter - (much cheaper to buy than the ITG too !). I think the 2000 car has the more susceptible MAF than the 98 too, so I'd take GMs advice and do the swap, before you end up with a blown 'un !

In terms of next mod, I'd agree with the above and go for a full de-cat (I did :D )

You could also look at SAMCO I/C hoses, for better flow and reliability, but you won't gain anywhere near the de-cat power benefits. I/C tilt kit is another cheap (<10 quid) mod for a smidge of power.

Hope this helps,

Mark

PS_ should be OK to go with any of the above without worrying about ECU remaps - I'm assuming that you run Optimax ? - (if not, DO - no good improving the car and running on UL only)

jerry555 03 March 2004 09:06 PM

Optimax ? Is that the fuel additive you can buy ?
Or is it something else ?
I use Super Unleaded

Also are you talking about panel filters not induction kits ?

markwild 04 March 2004 10:27 AM

Jerry - Panel filters-

Also, Optimax is Shells Super Unleaded, but its octane rating is quite high, providing that the fuel doesn't sit in your tank for a month ! (Basically, I think its shell ul with an additive, put in by Shell, rather than a true Super - but this actually makes it better at the pump, provided that the additive doesn't degrade whilst in your tank)....

As I fill up 3-4 times a week, not an issue for me, but I think that you'll be OK on Esso SUL or Optimax IMHO.....

Hope this helps,

Mark

I had a full Mongoose S/S turbo back exhaust system fitted last Friday and all i can say is wow... you wont regret having something like that do for sure. Also got an Apexi panel filter fitted but not sure about it i think i would have preferred a K+N.
