does a radiator splitter actually do anything?

done the usual ebay thing and bought something without researching it:rolleyes: , bought an intercooler and rad splitter and while the intercooler splitter i can understand the advatages, the rad splitter/deflector just shuts off the thin gap at the top of the rad.

just how much air (if any) escapes thru here and does it really make any bloody difference?

if it was a case of just bolting it on i wouldn't be fussed about sticking it on, but i've got to do a bit of modifying to get it to fit.

will i be wasting my time?

cheers

anyone want to buy a rad splitter that will only fit when you cut a big chunk out of it?;):D

StickyMicky 29 February 2004 05:15 PM

yeah i saw them

i can understand the intercooler splitter, the rad splitter confused the hell out of me as well

my mate was persuading me to bid saying "more shiney bits!!"

oh yeah it's shiny so it must do something:rolleyes: that's why i bought it! gotta be worth at least 10 BHP;)

The rad thing IIRC is just a shroud and really should be used in conjunction with shrouds for both vertical sides. This forces the air to go through the rad rather than around it - increasing the cooling in summer. A good mod IMHO.

I insert some sponge to close the gap on top of the radiator and to my surprise coolant temperature is 5-8 deg C cooler in cruise.Climate here is 30-35 deg,so closing up the gap with sponge material cost me nothing and it also bring down the coolant temperature.I do not have a coolant temperature meter but my temperature reading comes from Link ECU which can be monitored from the handheld set.

cheers guys, think i'll look into getting it machined to fit and see about making some side pieces
