Will LRP Fuel Cause Any Damage to My STi
 
Hi guys,

I've got a '97 WRX Sti with a full de cat system. I am running it on Optimax and using booster as well. When i brought the car recently i was given some NF booster which the car loved, and ran very well. Since then i brought some Millers booster which i add when i fill up, and am getting a bit of spluttering when the turbo kicks in, not all the time, but some times.

I pulled into a Esso the other day, and noticed the 4* replacement LRP. What i would like to know is if i can run on this, and would it cause any damage to the engine.

Also if anyone knows where i can get some NF booster from that would be great too.

Saab found that LRP corrodes turbochargers, due to the sodium used as a lead substitute becoming very reactive at the temperatures in the turbo.

So you're advised not to use it on turbocharged cars. I suspect it'll also damage your lambda sensor.

LRP's being phased out, as it's just not selling in sufficient quantities to make it worthwhile offering by most petrol stations.

(even those of us who own older cars designed for leaded four star don't use LRP)

Stick to Optimax/Super Unleaded.

Cousin has an STI V which he used to run on NF now he uses nitrox street legal and reckons its just as good, his car was flying last time I was in it! Don't use STP, he said that was really sh*te!

dont use LRP, LRP is for older cars mainly, that use carburettors and have softer valve seats.
Fuel injected cars usually have hardened valve seats that are suitable for unleaded, due to higher combustion temperatures involved in burning it, and aren't backwardly compatable with LRP.
Best to stick with unleaded with octane booster.
