Newbie but VERY important ?

Hey guys I'm new to Impreza's but have this one question answered.

Does the 2004 WRX Impreza have the same exact engine as a 2002? Would I be able to buy lets say... AEM pulley set from the 2002 for a 2004?

The reason I ask is I might have a chance in buying a 2002 model but it might already be taken. I also have a chance in buying a 2004 model as well. I know there are plenty of aftermarket parts for the 2002 but haven't seem amy for the 2004 that's why i ask if they can be interchanged. i was told the only thing different between the two is the body styling of the car. Is this true is it the same exact motor? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in Advance

Nope.
The engines are not exactly the same.
MY03 onwards run higher compression ratio.
Also uses VVT afaik.

Anyway, enough differences that I personally would not use mods designed for the one on the other.

Hey, Thanx for the reply

I had a feeling that guy at the dealership didn't know what he was talking about. You don't know how much you just helped me out. The only Impreza I'll be getting will be the 2002 model.

Also just how much power can the the tranny take before it gives out? I have some magazines where one put out 269whp then another mag had a WRX putting out 300whp

I don't know about UK models but in the rest of the Europe MY02 and 04 WRX are almost the same, NO higher compression ratio (only Japanese and Australian models have) NO VVT, just the last few months - at least in my country - the new Foresters come with similar semi closed deck blocks with the STI!
