Dawes AFR reading...

Is this normal,

When cruising at 60mph and barely touching the loud pedal, no lights on the AFR and then on WOT its on blue.
When the car is idling after warming up it has the disco light effect ie up and down the range.
Thanks.

Yes -

Mark - Sometimes get a flicky on throttle off....

Thanks Mark,

I was happy with most but was not sure about the no lights when cruising off boost.

That's the only disadvantage to the Dawes AFR. I know the AFR's main use is to monitor open-loop fuelling, and the leds voltage values are set to suit that purpose, but because it's lowest voltage value is set at the rich end of stoich, it would appear to be knackered when driving around off-boost... :)

Sonic,
That sounds exactly like mine, my00! although since I've fitted the 801 my99 ecu I can adjust the loud pedal and get a green light!

Ron.

Yes mine is an MY00 also but can I be happy that this is ok and normal.

RON 27 February 2004 01:44 PM

Yup!!

mr smash 27 February 2004 01:52 PM

Yeah mines the same although i can get the blue at the start of the jopurney after a while i just get the ambre....i also have an electrosystems AFR fitted whitch reaches its richest reading as the dawes 1st red led lights up so its good 4 pre-wot measurement.

Sonic74f 02 March 2004 12:09 PM

Just bring this up again, I noticed the last few times of driving off boost that the red light will stay on for a while while eg cruising off boost at 60mph..is this normal???

The_Judge 02 March 2004 01:36 PM

Indeed. If you had an AFR with more lights on it, you'd see lots of activity. Don't forget, the ECU is trying to achieve a stoichiometric combustion, which produces a lower voltage lambda reading than the voltage your red light illuminates at.
