28 Days Later

Mate lent me the DVD, oh my god what a film, havent watched a film as brutal and exiting in ages.

Its one of those with that much suspense that its actually hard work watching, enjoyable but its so tense all the time it leaves you a bit drained.

Anyone else seen this ?

I hadnt even heard of it until he lent it me

mj 23 February 2004 11:05 PM

Interesting plot, but a dire film, like "dog soldiers" :(

"cidae de deus"

GarethE 23 February 2004 11:07 PM

Yep - superb film...just goes to show you don't need a Hollywood $ *00,000,000.00 production to generate suspense, in fact most of them don't !

J4CKO 23 February 2004 11:11 PM

MJ, I thought the plot was the worst bit, been done before numerous times.

Interesting plot, but a dire film, like "dog soldiers"
i loved dog soldiers i thought it was hilarious.,
2 greatest moments
1, when the sarge's guts was out and the guy was pushing it back in.
2, when sarge told the guy to knock him out with a punch but didn't do it the first time and hit him the 2nd.

28 days later was, ok.
but being a "zombie movie" fan it was the first film that i saw that YOU had to OUT-RUN the Zombies.

however i want to see the making of
1, the empty scene of piccadilly circus (big coca cola sign on building)
how they manged to get that deserted
2, also the taxi driving to scotland on the motorway.,where there are no cars..............................oohh believe me what was on my mind then.......

i wonder was that a CGI or what?

JohnMcC 23 February 2004 11:29 PM

Yeah, I saw 28 days Later in the cinema and got the DVD for Christmas. I think its a great film too - and I am not usually a fan of this kind of genre of film.

Gritty, and as you say, hard work. Not what you expect either. I can see not everyone would like it though.

Top film though. :)

No CGI. The scenes in London were shot early morning (4am) and despite police help in closing the roads late night clubbers on their way home kept getting in the way.

The motorway travelling scenes were shot on the M1 I believe having persudaed the police to shut the motorway - they only had 30 minutes to do the shots as the pioice refused to shut it for any longer.

Not a bad film and interesting in the way it draws parallels between the 'zombies' and the remaining 'good guys'

tiggers.

wwp8 23 February 2004 11:45 PM

i was convinced that they couldn't get that,

1, the london scene the guy was shouting hello
i could imagine someone shouting back (wassup mate where'ja wanna go)
they must have deserted it for a quite a distant as it was SOOO quiet

and for the motorway i could imagine that

but i thought newspapers were to say london was closed due to making 28 days film etc.

but i suppose anything could happen

StickyMicky 24 February 2004 12:21 AM

i loved it
me and the bird both agreed that it did actualy have us on the edge of our seats when we saw it in the pictures

all the way through i was constantly thinking "sumthings gonna jump out right now" and nothing really does, but you cant help feeling it

top stuff imo

Daz34 24 February 2004 12:34 AM

No CGI
Yes they did. I saw the making of it. Doing it at dawn keep traffic & pedestrians to a minimum but they still had to remove a fair amount of them with CGI effects.

Funkii Munkii 24 February 2004 07:08 AM

very day of the triffids

tiggers 24 February 2004 07:57 AM

Ok Daz I concede, I meant there was no major CGI - I know some of the crew who put the film together abd they are very proud of the way the London/motorway scenes were put together.

wwp8, Don't forget the sound (or silence in this case :D ) is dubbed on after - the ambient noise was still very high when they actually filmed it.

tiggers.

eClaire 24 February 2004 09:40 AM

I thought it was fantastic! :)

Daz34 24 February 2004 10:41 AM

I like the bit where they are driving north on the M6 & they see Manchester burning.

Make pumps twenty ;)

scoobynutta555 24 February 2004 10:45 AM

Dog Soldiers was a good film, but 28 days later, I thought wasnt that good at all. Empty London was good to see.

suprabeast 24 February 2004 12:22 PM

28 days later was one of the worst films i've ever seen. The plot was appalling.

Dog soldiers was amusing and made you jump a couple of times at least.

andrewdelvard 24 February 2004 12:56 PM

Good film. Did big business in The States didn't it? Think there is going to be a no2. Liked the alternative endings on the DVD.

Dog Soldiers is THE greatest film in the history of cinema (all it needed to be perfect was some gratuitous $ex scenes)

Get back to your lectures boy!!

.

You ARE kidding arent you i dont think they could divert ALL air traffic for starters.

Almost all sound you hear in cinemas is either dubbed or seriously doctored in some way and has been since the first talkies .

Love 28 Days later and Dog Soldiers.

The plot of TEDL I like a lot, mainly as it goes to show what can happen when the animal liberation people get it wrong, and one day, they will, and this could be the result, ok, a bit dramatic, but, it is a possible scenario.

TopBanana 24 February 2004 02:08 PM

28 Days Later started off well, but as soon as they went to the camp it went to bollocks

RichiW 24 February 2004 06:00 PM

Watched it at the cinema and loved it :D

Bought it on DVD when it was released and felt a little let down, not quite the same experience as the big screen.

andrewdelvard 24 February 2004 06:09 PM

Still yet to see a movie that made me, as an adult, put my hands infront of my face like the original 'Texas Chain Saw Massacre'.
Thinking about it I'd have to really consider if I ever wanted to see it again.
'Kin scary. Felt like ringing my mum through parts of it.

M444GY 24 February 2004 06:23 PM

wicked film scared the beejeezus out of me:)

FrenchBoy 24 February 2004 07:58 PM

got to agree with some of the others on here 28 days is a very average film!!!

dog soldiers rocks the kasbah!!!!

saw it at the cinema and it was one of the first films in years to have left me unnerved by the long drive home in the dark on my own! (and i'm 31yrs old and very cynical!)

quality, havn't felt like that since i was a kid watching american werewolf for the first time!!

J4CKO 24 February 2004 08:00 PM

Looks like I need a copy of Dog Soldiers then !

Of to Ebay I go.

MJW 24 February 2004 08:11 PM

28 Days Later I thought was a great film, but I like all Danny Boyle's films - Shallow Grave was superb as was Trainspotting and the Beach is good too.
Also a thumbs up here for Dog Soldiers, a right laugh despite the unconvincing werewolves !!

mj 24 February 2004 08:15 PM

Danny B 24 February 2004 08:22 PM

I saw 28 days later when it first came out at the cinemea and since bought it on DVD, the amount of people that walked out half way through in disgust was unbelievable
Lightweights :D

ADP 24 February 2004 08:22 PM
