Just a quick Q if anyone knows the answer I'd be grateful --- if I fit Eibach springs to lower my scoob and don't fit new dampers will this compromise the handling at all ?

IMHO - No & infact improves it.

The technical answer (as I understand it) is that Eibachs will put more load on standard dampers & reduce their life expectancy.

Pre-Leda had Eibachs & was v. happy with 'em. Ask Stef, he runs Eibachs on standard dampers (well, he might have changed 'em recently, not sure).

I run eibachs on standard dampers, had them fitted by Powerstation when they did the bumpsteer mod. Love it.
A local dealer is also doing a suspension mod that fits eibachs to standard dampers, they also fit a strut brace.

Yes, the earlier cars had weaker dampers. Pre-98 cars had softer springs as well.

BTw, does anyone have the part numbers for the Bilstein dampers? My local dealer in Malaysia has no clue.

I am still running my origianl dampers with the Eibachs. The car has now covered 75, 000 miles http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif , and I think they may be on their last legs anyway.
I intend to swap to an adjustable type of one sort or another, but there's just to much choice! Or do I wait for the new adjustable Billies? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Stupid Question gents, but are there more than one set of Eibachs for the scoob?
Another not so stupid question, how much does this lower the car down by, 25mm or 35mm, etc.?

I'm curious now... Adjustable Bilstien Shocks? I wasn't aware that bilstien did adjustable shocks except maybe on their v.expensive race stuff... I think their philosophy is to match the dampers and springs to a car, develop the best settings for that package and sell that as a non-adjustable system. I have some rather special ex-works stuff on mine, and that isn't on-car adjustable AFAIK... set up is fantastic anyway, thanks prodrive (and PS). http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

The drop advertised by Eibach should be taken with a pinch of salt - whatever ride height your car is now it will end up at 360mm front and 345mm rear +/- 5mm tolerance measured between the wheel centres and the edge of the wheel arch lip directly above. See

Is there a specific model# or part# for the Impreza? I've had a look round the Eibach web site, but I'm completely lost.

I will measure tomorrow from centre of wheels. I had my Eibach springs fitted at Powerstation last week along with tweaks to suspension settings and bumpsteer mod. The difference is amazing. I suggest you do it

Glad it's not just me then, I had them fitted and noticed no (well certainly not 35mm) difference in ride height.

Just measured (with 61K mile standard shocks)

350mm Front, 345mm Rear

Ps Much less body roll, so very much better in dry weather little more skittish in the wet on a bumpy road. Best £100 suspension upgrade by far.

I've got H&R springs with the standard shocks. I am absolutely over the moon with them. They are 25-30mm lower than standard immediately as they have no settling period. They are a smoother ride than standard and handle much better. As you might guess they are a progressive spring. They work very well with the standard shocks.

I recently went to 17" wheels (Compomotive MO) and 215/40 tyres and the ride is now better still and the steering feel, turn in and grip also much better. The reason that the ride is better is probably because the progressive nature of the spring is being used rather than the bouncy nature of 38psi Potenza 205/50 tyres.

I've had Eibachs on other cars, mainly BMWs, including an M3 with the Bilstein Eibach setup. They were OK in isolation but having had experience with similar cars using H&R setups the difference was night and day.

I couldn't recommend H&R stuff more highly. You'll also find that anyone that has tried H&R will only ever have great things to say about them!

A friend of mine works at Spax and they have developed an adjustable coil-over set for the Impreza. A guy from the Norfolk area with an STi Type-R had them fitted last week for a test and my friend went out in the car and said it was stunning.

If anybody is interested I may be able to get a discount. I think they are going to be around £800 ish but don't quote me.

Haha! No Australian springs are very very average. The market is too small here for them to invest in the sophisticated equipment required to produce this level of spring quality, let alone the testing.

H&R are German. Even Porsche use them for their Le Mans cars.
