un-smooth acceleration

Hello all

When accelerating hard rather than the smooth accleration I'm used to it has all gone a bit strange.

When I'm in 3rd it get's to about 3500 revs and the acceleration seems to slow down a bit then returns to normal then does it again at about 4500 revs. It does the same in 4th but seems OK in 2nd. It's like I'm hitting dead spots. I've searched on the net and found mention of the Wastegate solenoid problem but I'm not sure if this is the same symptoms.

The car is an MY00 by the way.

Hope somebody can help.
Karl

I'd go along with that as well. Or your MAF. Certainly good starting point.

First of all, make sure your engine oil isn't over-filled. Should be about halfway between min and max.

Next, get a can of brake cleaner.

Finally, click here and the same advice applies... :)

I had a similar problem with a flat spot.
I found it very hard to not p155 off passengers when slowly moving in traffic.
Also when changing gears around 5000 rpm.
Seems to throw you forward for a split second then back again.
Yes it was the MAF,and the b45t4rd wrecked my engine before I found out about it.
These are £73 from main dealers (£103 from GGR)

worse if fifth

Thanks for the replies.

Been on the mortorway now, it's at its worst in fifth gear. I'll try the brake cleaner fix otherwise it'll be a trip to the garage...
