Another tyre group test
 

Topcar magazine here in South Africa have a performance tyre shootout in their feb issue. 225/45 R17 tyres were taken from 9 manufacturers and then tested in dry and wet handling, dry and wet braking and aquaplaning. the results are as follows:


1 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-3
2 Continental Sport Contact 2
3 Bridgestone Potenza S-03
4 Michelin Pilot Sport
5 Pirelli P Zero Rosso
6 Falken FK 451
7 Yokohama AVS Sport
8 Toyo Proxes T1-S
9 Dunlop SP Sport 7000 D

Goodyear Eagle F1 on top again. best wet handling, average dry.
Pirelli P Zero. best dry handling, aweful in wet.
Toyos didnt do well at all.

worst thing was dunlop came stone last, and had a full page SP 7000 ad on the page after the tyre test results!

This tyre test is flawed. I can only asume they're getting a backhander from some manufacturers. They show the Toyos as having inferior grip to the Michelins in the wet. This is absolute b*llocks. I have a set of each and use the Toyos in the winter (great in the wet) and the Michelins in the summer (great in the dry). THe Michelins, despite being a better tyre, in terms of being more predictable, have nowhere near the grip of the Toyos in the wet. The test also rates the SO3's highly which seems to be at odds with most of the folk on here.
The Conti results are interesting and i'd like to hear from anyone who has tried these tyres

a lot of this will be dependent on what tire size they are using, as the complaints about the s03 were geared towards the higher profile tires which flex a lot.
Same can be said for the goodyear GSD3s.

Toyos definately come in the top 3 imho.
