Headlight bulb upgrade - which one?
Hi there
What would you recommend to replace the OEM bulbs with? The car is MY00 Classic. The bulbs need to be road legal. Have read about Osram and Philips on www.powerbulbs.com Apparently Osram came top in Auto Express testing. Any others? What's the best place to buy them from? Many thanks! Andrei |
I would advise checking to see if you have any significant voltage drop between the battery and your lamps first. That way you can check if any new bulbs will work at their optimum. Voltage at my lamps are almost 4v down from the alternator/battery so I'm loosing out in a lot of potential from the existing lamps.
If your lamp voltages are fine, then Philips Vision Plus or GE Megalights seem to get rave reviews. Stefan |
Phillips from Powerbulbs get the thumbs up from me (got free side light bulbs too )

I'm currently using the philips cool blue bulbs - big improvement over the OE but you can get better - will probably be going for Osram Silver stars or the PIAA's for next winter.
the blue sidelights you get free make a massive differerence to the cars appearance IMHO - no more feeble orange glow! |

1. GE Megalight 60% uprated from Autolamps online, about £20.
2. Voltmeter between alternator and earth, then across back of bulb. Any difference of more thasn, say 2 volts, will affect light output. You can relay them fairly easily if you know a bit about wiring. If not, message TimH. Alcazar |
Philips Vision Plus work very well in my MY00. Just bought one for the motorbike as well. I got the last set of Ebay for £10 a pair :)
