Extended Warranty. Do I, Don't I ???

Do I extend my Warranty. (runs out end of August)
What does it cover?
Does it include subaru Assist (breakdown recovery)

OR

Do I not.
And start on the warranty killer mods
Full decat (or with downpipe performance cat)?
Induction kit?
Etc, etc, etc. :D

Car has PPP- do I bin this and go for a remap??

For me, £327 save me another £2500 on top...

I wish I had. The engine in my MY00 suffered a big-end bearing failure a couple of weeks ago and it's now strewn in bits all over a workshop floor. Quotes for the rebuild ranged from £1500 to £5100. (No, that's not a typo).

IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT BUY IT !

It's the same warranty you get from new. Yes, it covers subaru assistance. If you mod your car though you will find it hard for the dealership to honour your warranty.

I got a new engine from my warranty; no unapproved mods on my car though.

I just extended my MY01 WRX PPP for £440. It includes the breakdown cover and is for 2 year / 60k miles. I think the issue is - can you afford it if something nasty goes wrong... or does the extra bhp etc from modding it outweigh this cost/risk.

I decided my scoob is as fast as i can drive it as it stands, and i can't afford a £5k bill for a new engine.... so i'm leaving the car as is and enjoying it for 2 years more.

I figured the big service (5 year £1k one) will be due when the warrenty is about to run out - so i'll offload the car then and buy another ;)

I just had the chance to extend for 2 years for £440 and haven't bothered. Had a free warranty for 3 years already and never used it except for a new alarm ecu - but that wasn't technically a fault, it was an upgrade. Also Subaru were prepared to let me do 60,000 miles in the initial 3 years and I only did 20,000 so probably they think not too much is going to go wrong before 60,000. I will be able to save a few hundred quid over the next 2 years by using cheaper places for major services without the warranty on top of the £440 I have saved straight away. I might possibly end up with hefty bills for brakes, clutch etc which are not warrantied anyway at some point over the next couple of years and again will be able to get these done cheaper without needing to use Subaru dealer to keep my warranty valid. I do not thrash the crap out of the car though and do not have it highly modified so I will be unlucky if much goes wrong - don't see why it should suddenly start now after 3 years trouble free.

However as pointed out it is a form of insurance and depends on your attitude to risk - it will not be funny if I come on here in 6 months time asking how much for a new engine and I've got to pay for it:eek: For the meantime though I've got 440 more notes to play with than the people with the warranties and I intend to enjoy it while I can. Well actually I better sort out some breakdown cover now Subaru assist has gone for me but there will be plenty left over for beering it up....

Two years equivalent breakdown cover (roadside, recovery, at home) will cost at least £250 so that leaves the warranty only costing £190 I think its good value, I still extended my warranty on my P1 even though I get free RAC cover as I work for them, so in my case I was paying £440 just for the warranty as I diddent need the breakdown cover, just think how many beers it will cost you if your engine went bang!!!!!
