im think about getting a scoobysport backbox for my standard UK MY98 4dr

1. approximately how much will it cost? (inc fitting)

2. how much will it effect the performance and BHP?

3. will it be noticeably louder?

Hi,

My Scoobysport BB cost £320. I fitted myself it is very easy to fit only a couple of bolts. Sorry I am not sure about performance gains. The sound is a very low pitched burble which sounds fantastic. If you are worried about it being to loud I can assure you it is not OTT and is fine on long drives.

Cheers

Rob.

........Yes you should get one!!!!

paul corrigan 10 October 2001 11:47 PM

NO NO NO and again no.

i had one on my 98 uk.then changed it for a prodrive one the difference in performance was un real it was like a rocket best change i ever did.
the scooby one was alot louder.
aljack did the same thing after he drove mine with the same mods
so no one gets upset with MYcomments ,the choice is yours

Hello Pete.

Thanx for the link. Nice figures overall, but some cars have big differences in numbers with the same components..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

How are you?
We met/spoke a few months ago during a meeting overhere in Holland (Broek auto Waalwijk, organized by Marco). You had a good trip home? And how is the WRX? a lot changed?

I notice in the figures from the link that most cars that are using a Prodrive BB, also use the complete PPP. So I think it´s hard to tell the difference in increased performance between the 2 BB.

Do you have concurrent numbers-figures?

Hans de Jong

I will never buy another thing from them. I ordered driving lamps and one of the covers arrived broken. After any e.mails and promises of a replacement , nothing.

This sort of c-rap service gets you nowhere

Hiya Chris! i went for the magnex, alot of people say err magnex and yes its cheap, but cost wasnt a issue for me before evryone should of bought this or that. did quite abit of looking around and its good value for money thats what matters, it has changed the sound nicely as i didnt want to attract too much attention. its well made, fits like a glove and has lifetime warrenty, i fitted that and a K/n filter and it defo improved pefomance, it breaths better and now revs round to redline easily. magnex make zorst for TVR and ASTON MARTIN say no more. it was 200 squid and a doddle to fit, got it from Falkland next day delivery, excellent service. just because you pay big bucks for one doesnt make it any better. just my opion. cheers Lee

Hello Paul.

I´m looking for a Scooby Sport Exhaust also.
But if I read your comment, I assume that a Prodrive backbox (from the PPP-kit ??)
gives a better and more (read increased)performance than a Scooby Sport backbox.
Is this correct?

I´m asking this, because I have the opportunity to choose between a Prodrive BB
from the PPP-kit and a Scooby Sport BB.

Who can tell me the difference between both BB?

With regards,

Hans de Jong

Hi Hans

I do remember you, I will be at Abbeville if you are going.

Adam M 11 October 2001 01:57 PM

I wouldnt worry too much about performance differences, I seriously doubt there will be anything noticable in the back box swap apart from the sound.

This often makes you think you are going faster.

Best bit about the scoobysport is the sound.

I dont have one anymore cos the tailpipe looks too small under teh cutout in the 22B bumper. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

JaMa 11 October 2001 02:57 PM

Tried a few backboxes now, and aside from sound, I dont think there is much difference. BUT!!! There is a great deal of difference when you begin to remove some of the other restrictive bits closer to the engine. I fitted a Scoobysport downpipe to my 2002 WRX and could not believe the performance difference. I also think the Scoobysport sounds better than any other system I have heard on the 01-up cars and seems to perform the best as well.

JaMa

CHRIS_D 11 October 2001 05:46 PM

whats the score when changing the downpipe and removing the cat with regards to getting it through the MOT.......or is it just a case of putting it back on every 12 months??

Interesting because all the Scoobs I've been in with *just* a SS BB are loads louder than my standard MY00 with PPP BB....strange....

BTW - the noise from a SS BB seems to vary quite a bit from one BB to another, no idea why....

i ment the scooby sport box was alot louder
all my car has had done is a hks filter and de cat system. no ppp
aljack has the apexi boost and fuel controlers it made a big diff.to his car as well
i have both scooby sport and prodrive back boxes in the shed
you are welcome to come round and give them both a try and see what you think.

I recently got a Prodive Back Box from a PPP car, defo worth getting one you can drive around and not notice much difference inside at low revs but if you put your foot down it comes alive, does sound nice on tick over from outside aswell.. Not so sure about High Revs from outside (doesnt sound so good in Tunnels etc)

but overall im pleased, I havnt heard any others tho!

Since last weekend I made my decision, and am the happy owner of a Scooby Sport Backbox.
Very nice sound, a little bit more noise inside the car, but who cares.
Look at all the people when you drive by. Wonderfull!!!

I noticed that when you give the car a full blast, the sound isn´t
that loud. Hmmm, maybe outside the car ;)
I also noticed that my KN57I-airfilter got louder.
The blowoff from the standard dumpvalve is heard very good. :)

I had the choice between a Prodrive PPP BB and this Scooby Sport.
I talked with the seller of the Prodrive and he said that the
following are the differences between the Prodrive and the ScoobySport:

1) Scooby sport has 2,5 inch pipes going into the BB and the
endtail is 3 Inch. Prodrive is going all the way 2,5 inch.
2) The endtail from the Prodrive is coated and has a filling
material to silince the sound. The endtail from the Scooby
Sport is one straight RVS pipe, which makes more sound.
3) The Prodrive endtail is more silent then a Scooby Sport(inside
the car)at constant speeds (for example at 120, 140 & 160 km/h)
but when you floor the pedal, it is able to roar louder then a
Scooby Sport (according to acquaintances).

But I´m pleased that I choose the Scooby Sport.
An acquaintance from me, drove my car and What a gorgeous sound. Wauw.
An old man who was standing at the side of the road, came up to
us, and was very exciting!! He thought it was a six cylinder
engine... LOL Nice sound and the car was running very smooth.

With all, My weekend was fantastic!!!

Pete:
How was Abbeville?
I wasn´t able to get overthere this weekend.

Hi Pete

Having owned one SS backbox and selling it 'cos it was too loud for Switzerland, I heard one in Zurich for the first time in a while recently....and want one again :)

I've heard mention that you can make these a bit quieter to order - is that right? What affect does it have on back-pressure/restriction?

Can anyone who bought a 'quiet' one comment?

Thanks
Richard

Rosco 16 October 2001 07:52 PM

Chris if you are interested I've got A Power Engineering Back Box, Centre and Downpipe.
If you want just the back box I'll sell it for 200 quid (cost 350).
It's only just over 1 year old and they claim it is the best exhaust on the market. Gave me excellent results with the downpipe and centre.
Steve

CHRIS_D 16 October 2001 08:01 PM

thanks for the offer rosco, but ill probably end up going for the scoobysport, besides basildon is only about 25 miles from my gaf

quick one though.....how does removing your cat affect the MOT??

cheers

Rosco 16 October 2001 08:06 PM

No problem what so ever!
Car was brand new when I bought it!
The Back box is pi$$ easy to fit and a lot better quality than a Scooby Sport exhaust, ask anyone. Also gives a lovely rumble.
Oh well, it's your money.

Chris - I've got a SS BB on my MY99 Turbo 4dr and it sounds fantastic, especially under hard acceleration and through tunnels. It's been on the car since I bought it, so can't compare the performance to before but from other test drives of standard Turbos, mine seems to pick up a lot quicker and smoother giving you a harder push in the kidneys ( I've also got an ITG panel filter ).

I love it, quite often find myself walking the dog when I know the missus will be coming home from work just to hear the car roar, you can hear it coming a mile off - sounds like a fighter plane!!

Pete
I'm just doing the same as you do, trying to sell the damn stuff!
Steve

Pete Croney 17 October 2001 05:47 PM

Yes, but the difference is a good product can be sold without needing to slag off other brands ;) ;)

Rosco 17 October 2001 06:40 PM

Point taken Pete. But this was also the reason why I bought a PE one and not yours after hearing several other peoples opinions at a track day! Sorry if I offended you.
One thing I will admit to though, if it was a Scoobysport back box, I probably could have sold it a couple of times already!!
Steve

CHRIS_D 17 October 2001 08:00 PM

if i was to not stop at the scoobysport bb and got the full system, would that mean they'd have to decat itand does that affect the MOT?:)

Markus 17 October 2001 08:50 PM

Personally I'd get a nice Hayward and Scott exhaust system ;)

sorry, just had to do it!
