Petrol in France is around 67.9p per litre at present, with very little price difference between 95 and 98 (proper Super Unleaded!) RON. As Paul says, many garages don't bother to stock 95 RON because the small price difference doesn't make it worth the bother.

Make sure you're running on fresh air when you arrive in France and make your first stop the petrol station - 67.9p a litre is much better than 89.9p http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif (which is what I'm paying just now for 97 RON here. That's a difference of over £11 a tankful! By the same reasoning, fill up on the way back just before you get on the ferry/Shuttle.

If you don't normally run 98 RON, you may notice that your car runs smoother and gets better fuel consumption. You won't have any more power but it might feel a bit quicker if it eliminates any flat spots you might have.

If you see a dark blue Legacy RS http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif, give me a wave!

Enjoy the weekend! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I'm off to Le Mans this weekend, but am a bit worried about trying to get SUL in France (esp given I only get 200 miles from a tank !).

Does anyone know what the availability is over there, how much it costs and whether there's a web site that shows SUL locations ?

Many thanks,
Rick.

SUL (sans plomb 98) is cheaper and more readily available in France than in the UK (often a small staion will only stock 98 and not 95)

Have fun at Le Mans

Rick, we're off to Le Mans this week too, leaving friday so may see you there - look out for silver N reg. I may actually fill up with Super Unleaded if it's cheaper and more readily available than 95 RON over there. I can't say I normally use it here (too expensive) though do you notice any difference in performance?

I was over in France 2 weeks ago and nearly ran out on the autoroute, pulled in to a little village near St. Omer and they 2 pump station only had Diesel and SUL (sans plomb 98) and it was only 62p a litre

but every petrol station I went to had a couple or more SUL pumps then UL

Thank god for that - otherwise you'd see the world famous http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Revs STi in bits on the way. If you see that in convoy with a pinkish Cerbera and V8 Esprit, wave. I'll be the one at the front obviously.

Thanks for the reassurance guys.

The price difference is amazing - wonder how many jerry cans I can get in the back.....

My car's a remapped STi4 RA (blue for those going !), only guaranteed down to 97RON....

Maybe see some of you there !
Cheers,
Rick.
