I think that the coil packs on my MY94 are at fault due to misfire / intermitent performance, mostly noticeable in 1st gear upon hard acceleration.

Reading many posts on this BBS regarding the symptons of coil pack failure. I'm curious as to why it is most / only noticeable when flooring it in 1st and not in any other gear.

How many of you have solved this problem by fitting new coil packs.

Had exactly that problem on my MY95WRX.

Took it to Powerstation (v.good) thinking it was overboosting. They took the coils out and the rubber was disintegrating round all four which allows the spark to jump apparently. They replaced all four and 4 new NGK Platinums and also increased the boost from 0.9BAR to 1.1BAR and it is running beautifully now.

I was having problems with hesitation on my MY95 WRX. I had the plugs replaced and this helped but ended up replacing the coils. The car now runs so much better, it is quieter, smoother and more responsive and I wish I had changed them months ago. Well worth the money, but it probably cost around £300 for the coils and plugs and fitting. I think the coils cost about £45 each, but you need to replace all four to save messing about.

Are the Coils only available for Subaru or can we get them from the likes of Lucas or Bosch or some Japanese firm.

As I'm Sure Subaru don't manufacture them themselves.
