My daughters pc will not boot up, during the XP start up screen it stops and and has an error message saying the lsass.exe file name could not be found.
Any ideas? Just tried using the recovery option from the XP disc and after a short while its asking for an administrator password - well one has never been set so now what? Bob |
The default admin password is blank, i.e. nothing, as far as I know.
Have you tried not entering a password? |
LSASS.EXE is the file that controls the local security authentication service. Basically it's a vital windows file that contains the user accounts etc.
Without it you are in trouble as no user will be able to login, as they are not authenticated with the machine. You could try copying the file from another Windows XP machine but I am not sure what this would do. It might make it worse. And if you did want to copy it, you would have to do it in the xp recovery mode as xp does not have dos:( Darren |
Thanks....
XP wouldnt repair so I've done a fresh install of XP and things are ok now. Bob |
