Mods, anychance of this siting in computer related for a bit please :)

I have just treated myself to a new toughbook, so my current "in front of the telly surfer" is up for sale.

See here:

http://www.epinions.com/S0043038_Tos...ay_~full_specs

I bought this about 4-5 months ago from ebay and paid £160, they go at round £160 to £200 so I got a good buy. The best bit is that when the guy brought it to me it was literally fresh out of the box, never seen any use other than to have it's picture taken.

I use it with a PCMCIA wireless card to surf the net in front of the telly to save an ear-bashing off the missus, so its got to be worth it :)

Although its bobby - basic spec, it quite happily runs W2K, and chugs away on the net quite niceley, I was surprised how quick it runs.

I will supply it formatted with no OS - as I got it, though I *think* certain windows OS's such as 2K let you run a desktop and a laptop on the same licence - you would need to check this.

There is no OS included, I will sell it boxed and packed as I got it, honestly, its a minter, my daughters going to be gutted I'm flogging it :(

If you have already got a wireless router, you only need a pc card - BuRR posted a thread in Computer related lateley of a site selling them for £13

The battery is still tip-top, usually get 2 hrs plus ( although the spec sheet says 3.8 ) I think the Mfr's are a little generous with their estimates.

If your'e interested, drop me a mail, I will meet halfway if your'e not to far.

If you want any pics of the acual laptop let me know.

£160 - steals it :D , P&P about a tenner.

forgot to say, floppy drive and expanion port thingumyjig also included.

your selling it 2nd hand at the same price as a new one?

mj 26 January 2004 12:58 PM

no, its not new, and it wasn't when I bought it, read the post. I already said I got it for a song - so I'm selling it for a song, check the prices, this is the going rate, and like I said - its a minter.

Thing is a piece of turd, We just dump these sort of lappies in the skip here... they are slow, and horrid to work with.

Lots of problems as weel when using up to date software. Bus on it is crap so hard drive could go bang at least once or twice a year if not more. Screen can go as well, very well known design faults on these.

Dont touch it with a barge pole!

Sorry mate, but it is sh!te!

mj 27 January 2004 02:35 PM

Well I think thats just about fcuked any chance I had of selling this on here, Strange though I cant seem to find anything out on the net that echos your comments, maybe you could enlighten us with some?, seeing as your'e such a fcuking expert

And beleive it or not, I would not try and foist " a piece of turd " onto anyone on here, or anywhere for that matter.

Thanks for the constructive post, wanker.

Well the company i work for CSC, had the contract to get these laptops in, I myself had one, as did most the people in here in total the company got in around 500 of these when they first came out.

I have just checked records that 41 of them had nothing go wrong, whereas 459 had problems as i recorded in the last post.

Mostly Hard Drives and screens.

As i said because we had so many problems i wouldnt like anyone i know on this site buying one as i wouldnt even give one to someone that i disliked enough, as it wouldnt matter if i threw it off the roof and it was run over by a 40 ton truck, it would still be just as fcuked as if you would give yours to someone!!

they are turd, but i am thankful to you for your critism to me on this subject i just hope i have given you enough facts!

Scott Herts 27 January 2004 03:16 PM

Just for you if your laptop hasnt got any sort of warranty on it and for instance the screen goes it would cost you more than the laptop is worth replacing!!

the hard drive you could pick up for 100 quid but they bios wont like anything over 30gb.

but hey good luck in that....JUST BIN IT!

i wouldnt like anyone i know on this site buying one
Fair enough Scott, I can see by your post count of 32 you are a regular " lynch pin " here on Scoobynet, so I salute you for saving these people from potential disaster

Scott Herts 27 January 2004 03:29 PM

No i had an old username, which i changed for reasons which were beyond my control as my email account i had got shut down and i forgot the password.

But nice try.....

Have fun with the laptop.

MJ

Scott is a well known techy on this site and with his old ID he posted over 4000 times, so i think calling him a 'lnych pin' is a little harsh, he is just a very honest guy.

I used to have one of these at my last company, never had one go wrong and it is so light. I did considering buying one a few months back but I don't really need one. I only wanted it as 'another' gadget

as you are probably aware, ebay is a good a place as any.

Darren
