bb, I have an older Amilo D 2.4G P4, 40 odd gig disk (I think) Radeon 9000 GPU.

Laptop has been fine. A bit on the weighty side, but that's no issue for me :) Never had a problem with it, would get another one if I was in the market.

Got an Amilo D 8820 May 2003 from an internet retailer

Had the screen pack in Dec 2003

Getting it fixed under warranty was easy, telephoned Fujitsu-Siemens and gave laptop serial number etc (didnt have my reciept)
They then transferred me to the dept that does the repairs who wanted to send a courier out that same day to collect my laptop.
When I got it back they had simply fitted my HDD to a new laptop.
All working well again.

Would buy Futijsu-Siemens again.

Got one in November ... its pretty nice but I only paid £1K for it with 1Gb of RAM and the optional wireless networking as I work for a Siemens company. No probs so far with the hardware (has a few probs with the bundled Nero software locking it up though) The batteries don't last long though ! The performance is stunning and its not too bulky considering how big the screen is.
