as a result of the recent and somewhat "interesting" watch threads i've decided to buy myself a new watch as my current swatch has received a lot of abuse!

i do like the omega seamaster so i've been searching the net for (2531.8) which is the blue on blue, automatic.

seems to RRP for £1,075 but i've seen it for around £850 on the net. also, i've seen it on US sites for around $1100 which is about £650 at the moment - £200 is quite a saving!

i'll be heading to the states this summer so i'm wondering if i could get it at a decent price in an airport - or are they ripoff merchants?

i also saw a US site selling them but said something about the serial numbers no matching or something?

Yoza et al. any advice on this?

Wait until your America trip, not only are the Seamasters cheaper in the airport, but they are cheaper again in the States, and widely available.
Your not far off the mark at $1100.00, but I would say more around $1250.00 for the model you want. Stay clear of the 'limited' edition OO7 model with the motif printed on the face(007 with a gun), they are un-popular in the re-sale market.
For obvious reasons I suggest you wear the watch on your trip home, and post the box and papers to you home address.;)

as above....i got my breit. in NY at about an equal £ / $ so an £1100 UK watch should be had for around £1100-1200

T

ps- as above.....do not buy a £1000 bit of movie merchandise, not even bond has a logo on his Omega!

pps- not that its needed....but you may be happy to know that the semaster is a superb watch. i have the later one with the broad hand (black face and bez) and it gets worn every day (since i lost the breit.) it gets hammered at work, gardening, diy, whatever yet it would take a good eye to spot any marks on the bez. and the glass is perfect...which is odd because its been wacked against every thing!

Seamaster Pro is about £720 at COstco, you will get hit for vat/import duty if you buy from the states by post.

Are they stocked at all branches of Costco? My closest one is Bristol, and i'm half tempted at that price...

midget1500 25 January 2004 04:06 PM

cheers yoza - looks like i'll wait till the summer!

>>Seamaster Pro is about £720 at COstco

for the 2531.8 model as above? do they have a website?

edit to say

example of US price = http://www.jomashop.com/omega-watch2531-8.html = $1089 which at exchange rate 1.76 = £620!!

That price is for the 3/4 sized quartz, not the full sized auto.

If you can prove me wrong Ill have 10 of them, cheers Yoza.

Edited to say 'the Cosco price' is the one I dont believe.

I wouldn't post the box home from the USA, you are more likely to get caught out that way. Just be honest in the unlikely event that you are stopped by Customs.

scoobydooooo 25 January 2004 06:28 PM

just wear ir through customs , top watch by the way as my left wrist will tell you !

Hi,

I'm off to the US in the next few days and will be there for a week or so. If I get a chance I'll get a price for you from a local store and post it on here.

What is the exact model name - not very good with watches (got a Seiko that according to last week's thread is 8 years past the date it should have stopped working by).

tiggers.

midget1500 25 January 2004 08:16 PM

hi tiggers,

that would be really great if you could, even an airport price would be helpful.

the model is an Omega Seamaster Professional Full Size Mens Automatic (2531.80 is the model code).

I bought my one for £825 cash from Emson-Haig, www.emsonhaig.co.uk, Mine is the full size blue on blue automatic, It was 25% off all watches between Christmas and New Year, you may be able to get the saem deal in there if you push them hard enough!!

r32 25 January 2004 08:41 PM

Mine kept filling with water if I swam in it, its ok now though, as it sits in its box in the dressing table drawer whilst I wear my ultra reliable Rolex GMT11
