I've had mine 14 days, 15 hours and 22 minutes.

Got half way round the roundabout, wasnt going at any great speed, bit icy. Got a bit of the way round then carried on up the kerb and smack bang it to the lampost.

I've got a few excuses, it was icy, its an automatic and has no engine braking, and the tyres were still Japanese so harder compound and not the best in wet.

Popped the tyres, bent wishbone, big V shape in the front.

Its been towed to the Vauxhall garage for repair estimate through elepahnt insurance so hope fully it will all get sorted except for the 500 quid excess.

Im sure some of you must have crashed yours quicker than me?

scooby_jim 24 January 2004 02:53 PM

Sorry to hear that matey...

Witnessed one to beat you though!

Was at Oxford motor park last weekend where I watched a woman drive her brand new shiney Fiesta out of the Ford dealer. She got to the roundabout just at the park entrance and a poor old silver haired dear ran into the back of her... So I guess she must have had the car about 30 secs...

Chin up! Jim ;)

fatgarykeys 24 January 2004 02:53 PM

It was a '94 WRX Auto, was silver, was in perfect condition with not a single dint on a car nearly 10 years old. Just hadnt got used to driving it, it was a bit of a change from a Fiat Seicent Sporting. Ive been driving up that road to work for 7 years.

salsa-king 24 January 2004 03:14 PM

:(

look on the bright side.. the Google ads at the bottom give you some good links to new tyres!!! lol

takes time to get used to driving a scoob... be careful out there.

Phil

fatty_heslop 24 January 2004 03:54 PM

Cant say how sorry i am to hear about your accident fat gary
I guess you were distracted by a rogue pork pie
Well at least you wont have to suffer the indignity of having your doors taken off by a fat bloke in a black 306 diesel.

PS have u got any spare sandwiches or meat products you could let me have in exchange for a passenger door i took off the other week

Marx Mcrae 24 January 2004 04:56 PM

I know of a guy who had bought a mint STi4 type R in black, he'd had it either 30 mins or 3 hours not sure which. I think he lost it on a corner in the wet and stuffed all the back end in. Noone had told him about the DCCD and which setting to use in the wet!
I've just been up to Scoobyclinic today and its still there getting repaied!
Also while I was there a lorry turned up with a nice my99 scoob on the back of it. He also lost it on a roundabout and hit the kerb and buckled all the rear suspension. Unfortunatly for him, he was just on his way to Scoobyclinic to pick up a nice UK300 that he had just traded his old scooby in for!!! How gutted must he feel

Marx

StuartE 24 January 2004 07:35 PM

very sorry to hear of your bad luck
hope you get it all sorted quickly.

on a funnier note though another excuse you could use is that you were to busy with the stopwatch timing how long you'd owned the car! oh and hurry up and get it fixed so i can have one of the other doors.

lordharding 24 January 2004 08:41 PM

hope you north east lads are going to join Tyne Tees scoobs

check the northern section for details/events/meets

fatgarykeys 25 January 2004 05:00 PM

Thanks for your comments Stewy E. I was thinking about getting a new MR2 but unlike the Yaris they dont do a sports version.

Oh well I will phone the garage tommorow and hope that the insurance is going to pay up and get me my car back soon.

I will be attending the TyneTees meets as soon as my pride has recovered, ie i get my car back

scoobynutta555 25 January 2004 06:11 PM

Id say roundabouts are top killers of imprezas. Ive had 2 scooby 'experiences' at roundabouts that Id wish not to repeat, thankfully very very superficial damage.

fatty_heslop 25 January 2004 07:12 PM

i feel stuarte comments were a little harsh fatty keays
Ive got a black 15 speed mountain bike in the garage (never used)that you can lend/hire and i wont mention to anyone that you had a fiat seicento before the scooby.

see you on the way to aycliffe when you get it repaired
hopefull not parked in a lamp post

PS better see if you can get a couple of spare doors whilst your down getting it repaired, just me and stuarte are getting low on them whilst you've been off the road.

dazz d 25 January 2004 07:51 PM

still waiting for the time to come

ADP 25 January 2004 09:49 PM

somebodys Mrs crashed an STI 8 on here in double quick time, written off! think it was like 2 or 3 days old

sti-04!! 25 January 2004 09:51 PM

thats why my mrs wont b driving mine

Old_Hebbo 26 January 2004 07:24 PM

Having gone past several WRX's in the last week or so i have a abundance of doors that i have picked up from the road, perhaps i could donate one towards your bent motor....

Old_Hebbo 26 January 2004 07:34 PM

Fat gary perhaps you could go down to the tyne teese meets on you 15 speed mountain bike kindly donated by fatty heslop. This would would be a much safer option as you obviously canot drive!

nellie 26 January 2004 08:00 PM

When R was brand new,i picked up a brand new escort SI estate,(company car)1st september, went to pull out the garage and a skip lorry smacked into the front and wrote it off,i had the keys for about 2mins and drove 25yds!!!!!

Old_Hebbo 26 January 2004 08:02 PM

Would anyone like to see a picture of fat gary's scooby. Prepear yourself simply follow the address: http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0000AP4TI.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

penfold118 26 January 2004 09:01 PM

LOL....

penfold118 26 January 2004 09:04 PM

I was LOL at the O H pic, not the crash....!

fatty_heslop 26 January 2004 09:46 PM

Its unfair to say fat gary cant drive...the other day i saw him fair flying along....i think he was chasing a meat van at the time.

normally he looks like hes driving miss daisy

anyway gary you had better set off to the tynetees meet as soon as you get your car repaired then you will nearly be guarenteed to make it in time....

PS wrap up warm...it will be cold at this time of year without those doors.

Spoon 26 January 2004 09:55 PM

FatGary- How did you get the car through the sva on the Jap tyres?

Afaik they more than likely won't be e-marked and so are illegal in this country.

If I am correct(do check it out)you were more than likely never insured either.

Plus the auto excuse is a lame one, use the manual shift like you should if you want to retain a tight line.

Other than that, shít news.

Paulo P 27 January 2004 10:47 AM

Spoon

If it's 10 years old when registered over here then it just needs an MOT ;)

PMSL @ fatty_heslop :D:D:D:D

Scoobs do seem to have trouble at roundabouts when drivers think they have more grip that they do and that 4 wheel drive makes them invincible :(

Spoon 27 January 2004 11:34 AM

Paul- I'm aware of that but it would have to have been built in Jan 1994 to qualify.

I know the e-mark refers to new tyres but as far as existing tyres are concerned I'm not sure, even though I was told they were illegal by a car importer.

hail-hail 27 January 2004 11:45 AM

My first scoob lasted 10 days, a STi Type RA. Went round a corner, lost it, and hit someone head on coming the other way. Scariest moment in my life :(, not for me, but worried about the person I hit.

My next scoob a STi3 lasted 2 years without incident :D

The_Lizard 27 January 2004 12:08 PM

I had my 98 Outback for about a week, when I was nosing it through some pine woods on a friend's property. I bumped the right front corner into a tree, and broke the indicator light.

A few years later, I also broke the driver's side mirror on another tree in those woods.

Doink 27 January 2004 12:24 PM

I dont think this will be the quickest but i got a sti v-ltd on a monday morning at 10.00am and crashed that week on thursday at 11.25pm. So thats

Absolutely gutted.!
