I've decided to lower my 1969 VW Beetle by about 50mm.

I know the back is a simple adjustment of the torsion bars but the front seems a little more complicated.

Anyone had experience with this?

To lower the front you will need to put some adjusters in the front beam. YOu can do this if you are a good welder, but I would recommend buying a beam with them already fitted and swapping all the bits across from your old beam. Not sure how much it costs, but most of the beetle suppliers should stock them as they are pretty popular. And a bonus to doing it this way is it's adjustable.

As per Nicks reply all custom VDub shops sell these and the shocks to go with them, u need a decent welder to cut 2 sections in the front torsion bar a weld in the units- the sus can then be wound down to required height- check with the Vdub shop waht they recommend as safe for your usage of the car- PS wrecks ur tyres but looks fab- I had full resto cal 1965 with gen 1948 W lid and Blaupunkt radio- still miss it now!!

Goochie,

Have a look at the Red9 Design website and give my mate Simon a call. He'll be able to help you and his spring plates are fantastic for lowering Bugs.

Just get an enormous fat knacker to sit in the back seat. Sorted. If you feed them with tonnes of MacDonalds, they'll have sufficient wind to emulate a decent exhaust system too. ;)
