Today the CEL came on in my STi7 after restarting after a 4 mile drive from cold having just washed the car. I slowly drove back home turned off the engine, restarted and the CEL was still lit. I then checked for fault codes using my SECS monitor and there were none. After looking in the cars manual for inspiration I started the engine again to put it in the garage and the CEL had gone out.
I then went for another drive and gave it WOT afew times and everything seems OK. Lambda ratios and knock correction seem to be the same as usual as far as I can tell. My STi7 has a PE sports cat exhaust system with CEL fix and an Ecutek remap. Do I need to have the engine checked by Subaru or could it a glitch to do with washing the car. Another thought is that immediately previous to the CEL coming on I had just been testing a secondary engine immobiliser that cuts the power to the fuel pump. Alan |
Surely someone must have an idea!!

Mmmm, it will be the cel fix not fixing, if you have a Tek 3 it should have been taken care of in the mapping as normal though, contact whoever did it and ask them to change it, then you won't need the cel fix.

Thanks Bob.

if the cel came on the secs will have it... although I think you might have to look at historical ones as I think there are two options (check current and historical)... (can't remember if that is available on all versions)

That code doesn't always show, there are also so "exceed amount" alarms that don't seem to show.

I remember when I was having my Clifford fitted/tested that the wireless fuel guard would prevent fuel from reaching the engine and the car would stall soon after, this would always bring on the cel, but never record anything in the diagnostics.
Once fuel was flowing again the car would be fine, showing no code and no ill effects. Alan, say goodbye to my smokey/rattly old STi and hello to the Legacy. :) Sold it for £17,500 (60,000 miles) in p/x for the new car, pick up on Friday. :D Once my car hit between 40/50k it really started to turn into a rattly old nail, so I'm looking forward to some comfort and relaxation in the Leggy. :) |

Your experience with the fuel cut sounds exactly like what happened to me. The CEL came on after restarting after the immobiliser cut the engine. However, the CEL did not go out until I had driven 4 miles home and restarted a couple of times. It has not come on since though. Sounds like there is nothing to worry about. Alan |
