I did a search of the angel eye lights you can get for up to '99 Impreza's.

Can anyone tell me why they are not legal for road use?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe the "Angel Eyes" that are available on eBay, etc are not E-marked.

I'm not aware of the technicalities of exactly why they are not approved, but I did ask a few questions and if you fitted them and went for an MOT, the tester could fail your car because of the lack of an E-mark.

HOWEVER.......if the beams were aligned ok and didn't give the tester any reason to do anything other than the standard beam pattern check, then you might pass ok!

So..it could come down to how observant an MOT tester is? Might be worth taking a chance.

Can anyone provide me with instructions for wiring them up as i believe they have their own sidelights and all four lights come on when on dip?

I believe the reason the angel eyes are not e marked is because the glass is clear, so when the light beam is on the beam goes everywhere, where as the e marked lights have directional cuts in the glass which direct the light forwards, so you don't blind every one on the road:D
Just check your lights to see if the glass is clear with no cuts in it?

What about the new Angels just out? Anyone tried them?

I've got the latest versions on my car.

Main beam covers a greater area than the std lamps main beam and are a lot brighter IMO. These lamps light up the road better with 55W bulbs compared to my std lamps on 100W. ('99,crystal)

Dip is similar but you need to set them up correctly to take advantage of the better light, but that applies to any replacement lamps you buy.

I've spoken to a few people on here about tyhese lights, and they all seem to agree that the standard wiring puts main beams inners on for main, and dip beam outers on for dip.


This differs from the Morette set up, which has an H4 bulb in the outer, doing both main and dip, so you get double main beam.

I'm not surprised that you find the standard angel Eyes better than uprated OE lights.................the OE Scoob headlights are awful:(:

I can give you instructions on wiring your Angel Eyes, the standard loom that comes with them seems OK, but if you want main and dip together, the easiest way is to start again, and that means 3 more relays to buy.
The upside of that is that you're "relaying" your lights, so they'll be better still:):
