Been told that if you drill holes in the clean side of the airbox
you'll get a power increase. has anyone ever heard of this and how true is it? will it mess anything up?

sounds a bit pointless. you will be bypassing the air filter, If you were to do it just take your air filter out instead . not recomended.

If you mean drilling the lower part of the filter box, then yes it does.

Not a massive difference but a little.

use something like a 4mm drill and drill lots of holes in the sections between the veins along the bottom and side. Aprrox 20 holes per vein.

Twas used as a group N cheat in rally cars I was told.

if you do it, post up if you noticed a difference or not.

it only takes half hour or so to do and if you feck it up a second hand replacement can be had for a liitle ammount dosh.

It hasnt messed anything up on mine or me mates and the mod is under the filter so the air goes through the filter before the maf.

I drilled the airbox on my prev 93WRX - I only drilled one per vein with an ITG filter fitted. Never had any problems and for me the car did feel a little quicker with the holes - may have been my imagination though.

A pointless and rather stupud thing to do that will reduce the amount of air going in.

You will suck in hot air form the engine bay, pointless thing to do. Buy a decent panel filter instead

+1, more noise and less power basically, the old placeabo(sp) effect.

It's the same as having an exhaust leak. People think it reduces power because it reduces back pressure. This is nonsense, the hole generates turbulence which increases back pressure. Sucking in warm air from some stupid induction kit is also not a good idea.
