Raleghi have anounced that the chopper will go back into production in April 2004.
There will be 2004 limited edtions costing £249.99 and the regular will be £199.99.

Sounds like a lot for a bike if it's exactly the same as the original, you'd expect to pay that for a decent mountain bike.

Still with Choppers going for an average of over £200 on ebay it doesn't seem too bad.

well bugger me!

andrewdelvard 15 January 2004 12:50 PM

Nearest I ever got to a 'Chopper' was the 'Chipper'. Same as the Chopper but with no gears.
Never got over it.

yoza 15 January 2004 12:53 PM

I had all three, Chippy, Tommahawk, and then a Chopper.
Swapped it for a Grifter, without telling my Dad, he when mad....:(

STi VII 15 January 2004 12:56 PM

Just saw this on BBC2's working lunch and they are not going to have the castration  gearstick, but they will be made of light alloy so should be good for sitting down wheelies :D

GaryK 15 January 2004 02:10 PM

£200? and the rest for a mint one you can expect to pay anywhere between £500-£800 for a mk1, special editions even more, seen one go for £1600.

Got two tatty ones stored away appreciating nicely :)

Pops the bubble of all the people hoping to sell their original ones for £500+, doesn't it?

I had a Chopper, fookin loved it! Lived on it for about 5 years! :D

johnfelstead 15 January 2004 02:18 PM

who remembers the panther? that was a bit easier to wheelie for a long distance than the chopper. :D

CHALKIE 15 January 2004 02:33 PM

My mate had the Chopper Sprint with the dropped handle-bars, does anyone remember those ?

Scoob99 15 January 2004 02:40 PM

Had one too fookin great fun, especially when you dicnnected the gear linkage and used the gear stick like a car:D The good old days eh:D
Cheers
Colin

johnfelstead 15 January 2004 02:44 PM

i remember the dropped handlebars, they were wider apart than the standard ones. We used to have competitions to see who could do the longest skid, you could go for ages if you put all your weight on the front wheel and waggled the arse end about. :D

Dazza01 15 January 2004 03:13 PM

oh the good old days are back:D:D just might order one of em :D

Long live the chopper!

alcazar 15 January 2004 03:46 PM

Wasn't it called a chopper becasue if you came off, it acted like one as it caught your danglies onto the extended seat???

Anyone else have the police siren on theres!? :)

Nick Wadeson 15 January 2004 04:09 PM

I still have the scar from where I went over the handle bars on my chopper when the chain came off and locked the rear wheel solid (cue claret everywhere and me running home to my mum and a trip to casualty :D:D:D).

Of all the bikes I owned, this has to be my favourite;)

Nick.

Oh look at all the 'flash boys' we were too poor to have a Chopper- had to make do with oranges and gravel for Xmas!

I have a scar in my leg the exact shape and size of a tomahawk's right hand Brake handle.

Hit a kerb and the handel bars wrenched out my hand and stopped after the brake handle had imbeded it's self 2" in my leg :(

Choppers were sh1t,the Mustang was mustard

Dr Hu 15 January 2004 05:09 PM

Hey - I had a mustang.......:D

My brother had a Chopper - weighed a fooking ton....a bit like the Grifter he had b4 it:D - he swapped his grifter (metallic green!) for a Chopper off a mate - my dad was'nt impressed at that - LOL - we left the old Chopper under a holiday caravan we used to own - bet someone flogged it for 500 squids - bastids....

Ah well - dont look back in anger....

This was when kids played outside all day - I would be gone ALL day sometimes messing about on bikes... never happen now!

Unless your a p*k*y kid;)

Krade 15 January 2004 05:19 PM

what was a mustang bike?

J4CKO 15 January 2004 05:37 PM

The Bomber, cool proto Mountain Bike, weighed as much as a small car !

I bought a Chopper for 2 quid cos it was a wreck with a cracked frame which made it wobble, t boned a lad on a BMX and it bent it like a Banana, local tit Jonathan Nobbs decked off it across a T junction into the path of an oncoming Grandad, poor sod in the car got out after running over it looking for a dead kid and drove of shaking and very confused !

I had a Strika as I wasnt old enough for a Grifter, the Grifter gears were lethal, tanking along and it slipped out of gear at which point your legs just rotate freely and knocks you off balance 'slip gear' it was called, quite why Sturmey Archer felt the need to include a random neutral I dont know.

Also had a Raleigh Arena and lusted after a Raleigh Quasar, sort of futuristic racer.

Rusty. 15 January 2004 07:18 PM

Any Commando pictures? :D:D

Upgraded to one from a Boxer as when I pulled a wheelie I ripped the handlesbars apart at the weld

Dunk 15 January 2004 10:49 PM

As if choppers aren't dangerous enough, a mate owns this....

https://img13.photobucket.com/albums...9/Yamchop6.jpg

And seeing as learning to ride a bike is so easy, my son's going to starting on one of these ...
