This may be a stupid question, as I am new to sccobs, but

What does a boost gauge actually do?
Is it worth having?
How much should I be looking to spend?

Tells you how much turbo boost you have. Its is useful as it tells you how well you car is running and if its under or overboosting.

1. It measures your boost pressure. Either in BAR or PSI depending on the type of gauge you buy.
2. Yes.They are handy to see if you have a boost problem and for driving "off boost" to cool your turbo before stopping the engine.
3. From £25 Second hand to the as much as you like. Cheap new ones start around £30 - £50.
They are easy to fit, but you may also need to consider buying a POD to hold the guage.
Try a search - most of your questions will have been answered before.

Thanks! I think I will be purchasing a boost gauge very shortly...

it starts with a boost gauge, then knocklink, lamdalink, full decat, better breathing, better brakes, better suspension, poly bushes, bump steer mod, boost controller, FMIC, inlet manifold, bigger injectors, cosworth pistons, stronger conrods, sti5 head, new ecu, bigger turbo, cold air induction kit, ad infinitum.

welcome to the wonderful world of the modified subaru

cheers

It's is technically a measure of the pressure of the air that can't get into the engine. This gives you a indication of how much pushing the turbo is doing.

Imagine force feeding a person. A boost gauge in this case would be a measure of the pie in your hands that you are trying to ram into that person's gob :D

Well worth having mate, before my scooby i had a cavalier turbo with a gauge in it, sussed out straight away when i had a slight air leak cos you can keep a check on the boost. Get your money out!!

Hi,

I'm new to a boost gauge, have just fitted a Defi and my peak boost is 1.3bar which i have set the bleep for, but am i able to go over that on the gauge as it is easy to to? without damaging my turbo.

James.
