Iam a relative newbie here so dont know if any one would be interested in a group buy on one of these.I am also a computer idiot and so the only way to shoe you this is to give out the Ebay ID number - 2452874659.
Prices quoted by the seller are as follows- 10-20 units $20.00 + P+P 20-30 $19.50 + P+P 30-40 $18.50 + P+P Also dont know what this converts to but reccon they are dead trick and unusual. Anyone out there could host the pics to here it would be appreciated and probably make more sense. CHEERS!!!! |
Guess it was little late to post this oh well!!!

Bear in mind that the UK cars also have a transponder chip built into the key to disable the standard immboliser.
I'm assuming that this key does not have the chip! |
Andy, not too sure about the transponder chip thing, I believe this is basically just a blank key.My car has a seperate fob with the remote lock/alarm button on it.I was just going to use this as the main key for starting/opening boot etc
Hope this helps |

My standard key is just that,a key. It does not appear to have anything in or on it regarding a chip, although I realise that most modern keys do come fitted with a small chip that has to be present to start the engine. The only thing I can suggest is abandonning the group buy until I receive mine and I will then post here with results(probably a better way to do it anyway) then I can at least say if it works on a ukMY99.
As I say I am only a newbie and dont want to upset anyone by attempting to sell on behalf of a third unknown party anything that does not perform as promised. At this stage there is not much interest anyway and anyone else can email the seller direct on Ebay.Better put this down as abandonned!!!!!!!!!!!!!Until further info comes to light!! |
I'm sorry I wasn't having a dig, just trying to let you know you might be wasting your money! :o
On the MY97, MY99 and MY00 UK cars I've owned, they have all had a transponder chip in the key. Have a look at the key and you'll see a small square of hard plastic set into the softer plastic. That is the chip. IIRC the Japanese imports do not have these, but I can't be 100% as I have never owned an import. Also I can't comment about the newage cars or the cars made before 1997. |
Dont worry wasnt taken as a critiscism, good sensible advice as usual.Think you could be right so will order one and wait and see what happens!!!!!!!!!
|
Andy,
the hard square bit of plastic, is that next to the actual neck of the key? about 2/3mm x 4/5mm? J |
My standard key is just that,a key. It does not appear to have anything in or on it regarding a chip, If you have a copied, all-metal key, and your car starts, the reason will be that a previous owner has hidden a transponder somewhere underneath the dash panel. Obviously you can't expect everyone to do something like that, as disabling standard fit security equipment in this manner has serious insurance implications. The only thing I can suggest is abandonning the group buy until I receive mine and I will then post here with results(probably a better way to do it anyway) then I can at least say if it works on a ukMY99. When you get your key, you may find that there's somewhere on it that the transponder can be clipped or epoxied in position. If so, your group buy may be a practical proposition. Reading your reply Greasemonkey, I'll take that as a yes then :)

Have sent the seller a question ref fitting the transponder to the key and am awaiting his reply!
|
received email from seller stating there is room for a transponder as the key has a covered space built in. He states that if in US (as if) he would fit transponder but I am assuming this would be a fairly simple DIY job.Does anyone know if it is poss to remove the transponder from the standard key?
|
brocks - can you send me the link to the sale on ebay please - I'm happy to act as the guineapig and order direct.
Thanks. |
Item ref number is at start of this thread.sale started at £9.99+P&P now at 16.01 ends 1830ish.Only one for sale on Ebay and I am still bidding!!!You can email the seller a question reference more of these but am not sure bout implications of buying "off" Ebay.I was going to get numbers then get the seller to list at "buy it now" and buy the required numbers direct but through Ebay if that makes sense.
|
Clicky
Not sure what you mean by "implications" of buying off e-bay. I have not had a problem so far and if you do get problems then e-bay will mediate, but not sure how musch use that is. In general I go by the sellers feedback as to whether I would be prepared to buy from them or not. I would see about skipping e-bay if you want to bulk buy and go direct to the guy. You could still pay via Pay Pal, but if he does a buy now then others could jump in and benefit. [Edited by OllyK - 1/13/2004 4:53:21 PM] |

Thanks for the link :)
|
Scoobysnacks, sorry bum info sale ends approx 2200hrs the 1830 time is for another item i'm bidding on DOH!!!!!!
|
Olly, if we were doing a group buy and bought direct from MrX then we would not have the benefit of Ebay madiation if anything did go wrong thats all
|
I've mailed the seller directly to see if he has a supply of them. I'll let you all know what he says.
|
Yes Brocks, the transponder can be removed from the key without undue problem. It's held inside a plastic housing that clips into the key body on the standard "little" Subaru key (just prise it out gently), while you can get it out the "big" (alarm plipper) key by unscrewing the body.
FWIW the chip is 12mm long, 3mm thick and is "wedge" shaped, being approximately 6.2mm across at the "thick" end, and just under 5mm at the "thin" end. |
