Spent ages removing calipers and fitting new discs and EBC greenstuff pad.

Noticed when fitting drivers side, the back on the piston side pad was a ar"e to fit...seemed really tight.

Got the calipers on then took it out for a 20 mile run. Got a "thunk" within 3 miles which I took to be the drivers side pads settling, everything seemed ok.

On the way home on braking it now lurches heavily to the right then left..

My question is..

Am I right in thinking the drivers side caliper is now applying first because the pad cant slide correctly or is it more serious ?

ASAP help would be appreciated as I have to suss it out in the wet tomorrow..

Did you bleed the brakes or just replace discs & pads?

I had air in one of the systems and it was causing the o/s caliper to bite harder, pulling the car severely to the right.

You didn't remove the cap from the brake fluid resevoir to push the pistons in?

Did remove the cap as I was having trouble getting the pistons back, assume I need the brakes bled if thats the case or is it worth stripping the brakes down a putting back together..

Didnt realise taking the cap off was going to cause probs..

Not sure if simply removing the cap is enough to cause air to get into the system to be honest. It sounds very much like the problem I was having and it was sorted by re-bleeding the brakes. My problem only appeared coz the calipers were removed and the Godspeed kit fitted, so system was flushed and filled with new fluid.

Personally, I would remove the wheels and give the brakes a quick check over first. If you've bled the brakes before and confident doing so it maybe worth just bleeding the n/s front and o/s rear calipers and topping up with fluid. Then try the o/s front, n/s rear.

If the pads were tight to get into calipar then they will be catching and sticking in the guides.I had same prob with new pagid pads,i used a file and took very slight amount off edge of pads,then used a little copper grease on edges,they then slid back and forth in caliper perfect.You are probably getting them grab as they jump forward and make contact with the discs.
Do a search for spongy brakes and spongy brakes the sequal.

The weather is awful up here so might have to live with it until it clears.

Based on what ur saying my plan of attack was to strip down the one I know is sticking, take a file to it as u suggest and free it up.

I will then bleed the front brakes and see if that does the trick, hopefully it will cure the problem..

Then of course there is the back ones to do ;-)

Its camskill discs BTW look good !

Don't like the sound of this, especially bearing in mind the comments about weather etc when you might need good brakes in a hurry.

It sounds like a fitting problem and there's good advice above. It could be lots of things. I would go through the lot and start again. Check the calipers are working 100%. Thoroughly clean the hubs, fit new discs, take a file to the pads if you need to or preferably change them for something good like Ferodo DS2000 or DS2500. Bleed the whole system and fill with good fluid, like AP Ultra 5.1.

Just on the way out to do exactly that (apart from change the pads since they are brand new)

Got one of those bleed thingies that allows u to do a one man job, looks like im going to get soaked doing the whole thing again !

Sorted, took everything apart again, cleaned up even more and filed everything down..

Didnt make a difference so bled the fronts, the left had a small bit of air in the system...

Then did the right one and found major air bubbles running through, literally had to flush it right through before it stopped.

Flushed it through with DOT 5.1 fluid and took it for a run problem solved. Even got a bit more feel from the pedal now, whereas before it used to be solid all the time and took a fair effort to stop the car..

Next weekend going to change the rear pads and flush that through properly with more fluid..
