Wonder if any of you guys could give me some advice how to get a bit more power out of my97 turbo uk scoob car. Currently has scoobysport downpipe, std center ,magnex rear box, Dawes device set at 15psi held in 4th gear and a K&N panel filter. The car goes really well from 2500rpm to 4500rpm with a good shove in the seat but power tails off at 4500rpm just looking to see what is the best way to.
1. Make it pull harder 2. More power from 4500rpm to redline 3. Less sluggish below 2500 rpm Cheers in advance for any help |
Tek3 remap
edited to say didnt look at MY97 sorry its not an option [Edited by Andy McCord - 1/8/2004 5:53:18 PM] |

More power from 4500rpm to redline 3. Less sluggish below 2500 rpm The TD04 already spools very quickly. Seeing as you've already decatted, about the only way you'll get the boost to build even earlier would be to run some sort of anti-lag strategy, or go for a larger displacement engine, at considerable cost. Your usable powerband should really go a bit higher than 4.5Krpm, so some messing about with the Dawes may help a bit there, but even in the best circumstances you won't get a TD04 to deliver all the way up to the red line, as it's simply too small and flow-limited. Thus, if you're really keen on getting more at the top, you're looking at a bigger turbo, which works against your goal of increasing response at low engine speeds. Better intercooler would help too. Decisions, decisions... |
Maybe i just stick to a bit more at the top then
any surgestions then |
When you say the power's tailing off at around 4500, what's happening to the boost, is that starting to tail off at the same engine speed, or what?
What sort of boost pressure are you getting at 5500? |
I notice you have a standard centre section ,replacement of this will give better high rpm power for sure, top end is strangled by the cat (or resonator box if that is what your ctr section has ...)

boost staying at 15psi to the redline
just after a bit more top end power and pull harder after 4500rpm [Edited by dr jim - 1/8/2004 8:48:02 PM] [Edited by dr jim - 1/8/2004 9:20:36 PM] |
is that right about the std center section strangeling top end power because i also have a magnex center section with a center box but did not notice any power diffrence so i put the std center section back on. So will my car pull harder with a straight through center section? Maybe more noise at the same time :)

i would do this if i were u:
* decat centre section * bigger turbo (td-05), bigger injectors, uprated fuel pump * fmic (or cut this step out if it'll cost too much) * ecu remap (link?) |
Your cheapest option (but not necessarily the safest) is to get a Fuel Cut Defender (HKS for instance £90+VAT), raise the fuel cut to say 19psi, then raise the boost pressure on your Dawes to say 17psi. A Knocklink would be an extremely good idea as well, if you haven't already got one. Octane booster may help also. Then get the car wired up to a select monitor, to check the AFR and ignition is OK...
