Hi

I ve got a set of powerstation equal length headers centre de cat and fire storm back box on my02 wrx

I loved the sound before the equal length headers but now I get a really bad resinance at 3k revs sounds like the exhaust is catching but it's not

which back box do you guys running equal length mainfolds have?
and do you get this resinance?

I ve heard the powerstation test car and it sounds really good but to quiet for me :D

I was thinking HKS or Blitz as they seem such good quality but i don't want to spend that much money if it stikll vibrates

any one

Rich,

MY99 - I'm running Powerstation headers, H & S downpipe, Magnex decat centre and JW Racing (Magnex) BB - no resonance problems.
Cheers

Greg

it sounds realy good apart from the resonance at 3k, so no one out there with a firestorm and equal length headers with the same problem

still worried if I swap for another large jap style box it will do the same, thinking I might swap for a scoobysport style bb

talked to Paul from TSL today at the autoshow.

said that most equal length headers will make this noise, and as the firestorm is so good at amplifiying the sound it picks it up loads - so looks like if i swap for any large jap style bb i will get this sound

in two minds now weather to swap as the firestorm keeps the flat four rumble so much better than other exhausts i ve heard with equal lenght headers.... question is do I conform to the norm and put a ppp\scoobysport back box

or try a magnex 6x4

still sounds nice and rumbly, but retains the equal length howl.. I like it and will post up audio samples of it soon!

Cheers and BTTT

come on people, so no one else has ever had this vibration/ resonance

I love the howl when booting it but when setting off from cold it sounds terreble

up for the last time :)... all comments welcome I ve decided im going to swap but not sure what to

After fitting my manifold (not Powerstation) the downpipe would vibrate against the gearbox crossmember - this was caused by the turbo sitting slightly higher than stock. Only happened around 3000 rpm IIRC. Might be worth checking?

I ran a ScoobySport backbox for a while with the EL headers, very nice sound with no boom but too much back pressure (I imagine the Firestorm would have similar bp).

Never one to conform to the norm :D

WRX_Rich 14 January 2004 09:50 PM

the sound comes from the backbox, which i was told happens with some backboxs

now that looks gooooooooood,:D what is it? My girl friend don't want me to swap from a smaller one, she knows that big is best lol ;)

the firestorm is known for its raspyness so Im hoping if i swap it all my problems will be solved

have noticed though it only happens when it is cold, which make me think its the headers leaking and producing a resonance but when they are warm they seal (which i ve been told they do)

cheers though I was thinking scooby sport... but theres always a nur spec ;)
